The way up led through Andre Chariot's intimate revues, in which she did her own numbers and understudied a firm friend, Beatrice Lillie. They were packed off, nervously, with Jack Buchanan, to Broadway where their modest entertainment had to compete with the tinsel extravaganzas of Busby Berkeley and the like. To their surprise the New York critics rallied to their support with the enthusiasm of true anglophiles.
