EDITIONS The Arizona Republic a hussuay, August 40, William Chester, former legislator William H. Chester, 75, of 5437 E. Yale, a lawyer who was a member of the Arizona House in 1943 and 1944, died Aug. 11, 1981, in his home. Mr.

Chester, a Democrat, was born in Victor, and came to Phoenix in 1935 as assistant trust officer for Phoenix Title Trust Co. He began practicing law in Phoenix in 1940 and received a certificate merit from the State Bar of Arizona for 40 years of continuous practice in the state. Franklin Copeland Obituaries Franklin D. Copeland, 46, of 3021 E. Granada, a barber, died Aug.

11, 1981, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Copeland was born in Columbus, Ohio, and came to Phoenix in 1953. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and had been a Phoenix policeman. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria; children, Carolyn Henry, William and Ronald; two brothers and a grandchild. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road. Botimer Family Mortuary made arrangements.

Harland King SCOTTSDALE Harland G. King, 43, of Scottsdale, who was born in Sacaton, died Aug. 9, 1981, in his home. Survivors include three sisters and four brothers. Services will be 10 a.m.

Friday at the Papago Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Extension Road and McDowell. Botimer Family Mortuary made arrangements. Leona B. Wilber Leona B. Wilber, 82, of 531 W.

Thomas, who was born in Orleans, N.Y., and came to Arizona 29 years ago, died Aug. 8, 1981, in a Phoenix hospital. Graveside services will be 9 a.m. today at Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 N. Del Webb Sun City.

Lundberg Mortuary made arrangements. Joseph Pirrello Joseph S. Pirrello, 65, of 507 Carol a retired factory worker, died Aug. 11, 1981, in John C. Lincoln Hospital.

Mr. Pirello was born in New York City and came to Arizona in 1976. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Margie; children, Billie Kirk, Judith Periser, Cheryl Kaminski and Michael Hall; three brothers; six sisters; eight grandchildrten and three greatgrandchildren. Services will be in New York, Green Acres Mortuary announced.

Marjorie Milam GLENDALE Marjorie Milam, 85, of Glendale, who was born in West Virginia and came to Arizona four years ago, died Aug. 11, 1981, in Maryvale Samaritan Hospital. Survivors include children, Edna Sarrett and Norvell; a sister; six grandchildren seven greatgrandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. today at West Phoenix Covenant Church, 3720 W.

Maryland. Chapel of Chimes made arrangements. Lois Peterson Lois M. Peterson, 88, of 4507 E. Earl Drive, who had been a life insurance agent, died Aug.

12, 1981, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mrs. Peterson was born in Hastings, and came to Phoenix in 1927. She was active in the America First Committee. Survivors include her sons, Lee, Willett and Donald; 18 grandchildren, 34 great -grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 8 a.m. Saturday at Memory Lawn Cemetery, 719 N. 27th Ave. Paradise Chapel Funeral Home made arrangements. John J.

Crooks John J. Crooks, 75, of Phoenix, a retired welder, died Aug. 12, 1981, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Crooks was born in Cuyahoga Village, Ohio, and came to Arizona 11 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, June; children, Carol Malacienski, Thomas Solbelski, Raymond Sobelski, John Sobelski, Richard and Myron; two brothers; a sister and nine grandchildren. Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Northwest Mortuary, 4033 N. 19th Ave. Mass will be 10 a.m.

Friday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, 3424 N. 18th Ave. John Dailey MESA John D. Dailey, 66, of 8001 E.

Broadway, a retired Chicago policeman, died Aug. 10, 1981, in Apache Junction. Mr. Dailey came to Mesa three years ago from his native Chicago. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Retired Chicago Police Association and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Delphine; stepson, LeRoy Nowicki; a sister and three step-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. today at All Saints Catholic Church, 1534 N. Recker Road. Melcher her Mortuary made arrangements.

Blaine White TEMPE Blaine G. White, 64, of 5806 S. College a retired farmequipment salesman, died Aug. 10, 1981, in his home. Mr.

White came to Tempe in 1942 from his native Oklahoma. Survivors include his wife, Mary; children, Lynell Jarvis, Ken and Allen; mother, Myrtel White; and a brother. Services will be 10 a.m. today at Carr Mortuary, 26 E. Fifth St.

Joseph Collier Joseph W. Collier, 38, of 1004 S. 27th a construction worker, died Aug. 10, 1981, Phoenix Memorial Hospital. Mr.

Collier was born in Phoenix and lived here all his life. had served in the Marines." Survivors include his wife, Gail; children, Cindy, Terry, Toni, Penny, Karen, Debbie and Joye; mother, Ruth Haver; and a brother. Maricopa Mortuary arranged cremation. Gordon McGlynn YOUNGTOWN Gordon McGlynn, 71, of 11412 114th a retired steelworker for the Ford Motor died Aug. 11, 1981, in Boswell Hospital.

Mr. McGlynn was born in Canada and came to Arizona five years ago. Survivors include his wife, Agnes; children, Donna White and Kenneth; a brother; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today at Lundberg Mortuary, 11211 Michigan Ave.

Frank Jadus Frank S. Jadus, 32, of Phoenix, an equipment controller for Xerox, died Aug. 12, 1981, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Jadus came to Arizona 10 years ago from his native Cleveland.

He was in the Air from 1970 to 1974. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Kristen; father, Mike Dziadosz, and three brothers. Northwest Mortuary arranged cremation. Christopher Garcia SCOTTSDALE Christopher R. Garcia, 17, of 5238 E.

Beck Lane, a salesman for Miller's Outpost, died Aug. 11, 1981, in San Diego from injuries suffered in an auto accident. Mr. Garcia was born in Germany and came Arizona a year ago. He graduated this year from Paradise Valley High School.

Survivors include his father mother, and Pia stepmother, Garcia, And. and Mrs. Arturo Garcia. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E.

Shea. Harold Larsen Harold L. Larsen, 68, of 6829 E. Osborn, who had been a plumber and postal worker, died Aug. 11.

1981, in Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Mr. Larsen was born in Fremont, and came to Arizona three years ago. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Frances.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School. Joshua Parris Joshua Parris, 75, of Phoenix, who had been a cook, died Aug. 10, 1981, in Phoenix Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Parris was born in Texas and came to Arizona in 1952. Survivors include children, Ora Patterson, Hope Reed, Ramona, Laura, Joshua Norman, Paul and Richard; two brothers and two sisters; 54 grandchildren and 30 greatgrandchildren. Webber and Sons Mortuary made arrangements. Caryl O.

Brownell GOODYEAR O. Brownell, 71, of Goodyear, an Avondale gradeschool teacher for 10 vears. died Aug. 12, 1981, in the Phoenix Veterans Administration Hospital. Mr.

Brownell was born in West Cambridge, N.Y., and came to Arizona in 1961. He was a member of the Lions Club and held a law degree. Survivors include his wife, Martha; sons, David and Ben; and a grandchild. Cannon Funeral Home made arrangements. Bertha Johns Bertha Johns, 86, of Phoenix, who was born in Rolla, and came to Phoenix in 1953, died.

Aug. 12, 1981, in Christian Care Nursing Home. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Henderson; two brothers; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at A.

L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams. Joan Norful Joan Norful, 41, a native of Phoenix and life-long Arizona resident, died Aug. 7, 1981, in her home.

Survivors include her children, Linda Farrington, Darlene Farrington, Cheryl Johnson and Larry Warren; mother, Geneva Davis; three brothers and a sister. Services will be 10:30 a a.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church, 1812 N. 12th St. Webber and Sons Mortuary made arrangements.

Bessie Day MESA Bessie Day, 78, of 324 S. Horne, who was born in Ireland and came to Mesa 34 years ago, died Aug. in Mesa General Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Harold; son, George Lang; five grandchildren three greatgrandchildren. Rosary will be 7:30 p.m.

Vera Conard Vera L. Conard, 87, 2502 N. 32nd who had worked as a cigar packer, died Aug. 12, 1981, in Doctors Hospital. Mrs.

Conard was born in Ohio and came to Arizona in 1957. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Disabled Veterans Auxiliary. Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial Park, 2300 W. Van Buren.

Atherton, 77, of 1145 E. Vogel, a retired licensed practical nurse, died Aug. 12, 1981, in John C. Lincoln Hospital. Mrs.

He graduated from the University of Wyoming and was a member of the State Bar of Wyoming. Before coming to Arizona, he was deputy county treasurer Sweetwater County, Wyo." He was past president of the Scottsdale Lions Club and had been a member of the Phoenix Elks, Moose, Eagles and Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; children, Patricia Serda, William and Wesley; and 10 grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School. Hy Rudin Hy Rudin, 68, of 6501 N.

17th founder and owner of Rudin's Supply died Aug. 12, 1981, in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Rudin was born in Pittsburgh, and came to the Valley 25 years ago.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of Temple Beth Israel and B'nai B'rith. Survivors include his wife, Lee; children, Noreen Shcolnik and Mort; a sister and two brothers; and four grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sinai Mortuary, 4538 N. 16th St.

Martha Powell MESA Martha J. Powell, 53, of Mesa, who was born in Houston and came to Arizona three years ago, died Aug. 12, 1981, in Desert Samaritan Hospital. Mrs. Poweil was a member of St.

Matthew's United Methodist Church and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Survivors include her husband, William; mother, Mary McGuffin; children, Deborah Scott and William; and two sisters. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Shumway's Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson.

William Eastman SCOTTSDALE William H. "Hank" Eastman, 86, of Scottsdale, who worked for General Motors 38 years as regional manager for Motors Insurance Division, died Aug. 10, 1981, in Redondo Beach, Calif. Mr. Eastman, a Wisconsin native and a 23-year resident of Scottsdale, is survived by his wife, Ann; sons, William H.

Jr. and Dan, and a daughter, Mrs. E. M. Stiles.

Services will be in Evanston, Ill. Scott Funeral Service of Evanston made arrangements. Laura Durbin Laura G. Durbin, 67, of Phoenix, was born in Everett, and came to Phoenix in 1948, died Aug. 11, 1981, in Good Samaritan Hospital.

Mrs. Durbin was a volunteer for the Cancer Society, voter registration, Girl Scouts and the Veterans Administration Hospital. Survivors include her bu husband, Russell; children, Judy Corral, Larry and. Gale; two brothers; and five grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 a.m.

Friday at Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave. Walter Atkins Walter D. Atkins, 75, of 16225 N. Cave Creek Road, who had been a heavyequipment operator for the Army Corps of Engineers, in his home in Show Low.

Mr. Atkins was born in Sault St. Marie, and lived in Arizona for nine years. He was a member of the Masons and of the National Federation of Federal Employees. Survivors include his wife, Velma; son, Robert; three brothers; three grandchildren and a greatgrandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden. Arthur Lee SUN CITY Arthur T. Lee, 76, of 9921 Alabama who had county clerk in California, died Aug.

12, 1981, in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Lee was born in Dubuque, Iowa. and came to Sun City in 1968.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include nis wife, Evelyn; son, Donald; a brother and a sister; and five grandchildren. Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Ave.

Mass will be 9 Friday at St. Joachim and St. Anne Catholic Church, 11625 21th Ave. GLENDALE Sammie L. Cupp, 44, of Glendale, who had been a laborer for a steel company, died Aug.

10, 1981, in University Hospital in Tucson. Mr. Cupp was born in Corbin, and came to Arizona five years ago. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; children, Kenneth, Thomas, Daniel, Sammie Charles, William, Joseph, Shirley, Tammy and Patricia; two brothers; four sisters and 12 grandchildren. Friday at Chapel of Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave. Walter Schlueter MESA Walter "Mike" Schlueter, 77, 'of 2929 E. Main, who had been the chief book examiner for the State Banking Department, died Aug. 11, 1981, in St.

Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Schlueter was born in Canistota, N.D., and came to Mesa seven years ago. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ella; and two sisters. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Melcher's Mortuary, 43 S. Stapley Drive. Trivia Donald Saltz Wayne L.

Griffin, 45, of Phoenix, a construction supervisor for Gosnell Devlopment died Aug. 11, 1981, in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Griffin was born in Miller, and came to Phoenix 25 years ago.
