A DEMON REGISTER columnist has discovered the topless gal statue on the soldiers monument on the capitol grounds at DCS Moines. He's shocked at the display accent- uatcd by the lady in the Statue. Shucks—he 5'hould go inside and look at the statues surrounding the main rotunda. There are hall topless there, and in some of the other displays there arc a few examples ol Ihc'mimi skirt of years ago. Me also got all excited because Algona had a high-brow movie group. Phoosy—doesn't he know Algona is the only town in Iowa with "go" right in the middle? • • • OVER IN TANZAMIA, one of the new states in the world, not so big as to command the attention of the U. S., Russia and China at present, a jawbone that is 50,000 years was discovered. It just shows that the jawing lasts a lot longer than nothing else. And without a doubt the jawbone was from a being of the female persuasion. They get the exercise necessary to build strength in that part of the bone structure. Wonder if it's like the one that Bibical character slew a lot of heathens with. • * * WONDER IF THERE'S any connection in the fact daylight savings ends just as the new tax law takes effect? With the new rate taxing everything except affection a person nseds some extra Um2 to earn enough to keep the tax eaters happy. Anyway lowans will set the clock back an hour on time, and maybe back to the Roman days when the ,rulers taxed everything they" could E3e arid a,lot they coultl't see. •' *' '•> rv J *. * * WATCHING TV and the variety shows has led the Old Goat to the conclusion mini skirts are much to be preferred to the long gosh- awful gowns the girl singers wear. They look pretty stupid wandering around in those long jobs. Reminds the Old Goat of the long- handled undies of the pioneer days. Anyway the best way to watch either flavor of singer is to shut the eyes and listen to the music. Most of them look like they were taking caster oil when they give with the war whoops. In the first place every state highway commission does the the same tihing—figure on how to make it a.s ornery as possible for the through travelers. The locals all know better county road routes. Actually, seriously, what the commission is trying to do is keep the huge trucks off local roads. The heavy trucks raise heck with 'the local roads making the local people unhappy. Buit truckers aren't fooled. When 169 was derouted a few summers ago it was only the stranger motorist who make the round trip. Truckers took the local roads. * * * THE COMMERCIAL for that famous brand of girdles tells the gals to put their fingertips in the strategic places and push in— that's what the girdle does. Funny they don't have a man doing the demonstrating. The other gal's hubby is a big bank director and 'has a cushy job. Seems only reasonable "to make him a general, or maybe an admiral.' * * t EVER WONDER what the audience laughs so hard about on the TV shows. Shucks the laughter is put in afterwards and most of the action takes place wtoere there isn't an audience. The canned guffaws are put in to let the yokels know when to laugh. 49 Major Appliances on Display at BEED HARDWARE - -in Titonka REFRIGERATOR WARRANTY 1-year Warranty for repair of any defect in the entire refrjgerator, plus 4-year Warranty for repair of any defect in the refrigerating system. fOOD FREEZER WARRANTY 1-year Warranty for repair of any defect in the entire food freezer, plus 4-year Warranty for repair of any defect in the refrigerating system.
