Yet, the attractiveness of this growing Sun Belt city has not resulted in a bumper crop of applications from companies wanting to operate either of the two full-power UHF television channels the Federal Communications Commission has allocated to the Valley within the last three months.

A telephone call Wednesday to the FCC in Washington revealed that only one company has applied for Channel 45 while no party has applied for Channel 51. Channel 45 was allocated to Phoenix in late April, the assignment being effective June 26. Channel 51 was assigned to Tolleson in late May and was to be effective July 6. Parties interested in either channel may now apply. The lone applicant for Channel 45 is United Television a subsidiary of Chris Craft Industries which already owns four TV stations.

Its application was no surprise as it petitioned the FCC last summer to allocate the channel to Phoenix.
