Thursday, May 24, 1956 Dance Recital May 30 at 8 The Katy branch of the Hallie Pritchard School of Dancing will present its sixth annual spring recital at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May, 30, at the Katy High School Auditorium. The public is invited.

Connally sentenced six men Monday who pleaded guilty of charges brought by federal undercover agent, Tony Stefano, concerning the sale of ducks, a violation of the Federal Game Law. E. M. East, 67, received a sentence of 90 days in jail and $200 fine. Johnny Childress, 35, Negro who worked for East was given 30 days to serve, William Freeman, drew a four month jail term and a $500 fine on one case and on another a $500 fire and six months jail sentence suspended under these conditions no hunting, lawfully or unlawfully for three years.

Freeman's sentence was deferred two months. Three other men, H. W. Maley, Mason Clark of Cove, Bill Schultz of Rosenberg, Edward Maddox of Anahuac received similiar sentences. Sherman Try on Sherman D.

Served in the 5th Air Force in Japan and Korea from April 1952 until August of 1953 as cashier in finance offices.

AF Stationed at Bergstrom Base, Austin, Texas for the remainder of service except for temporary duty in England from May until August of 1955, during which time his work assignment was with the Base Finance Office. James Quilter To be Ordalned Reverend James Thomas Quilter will be ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on Saturday, May 26, 1956 by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Louis Joseph Reicher, D.D., LL. The ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. in St. Marys' Cathedral, Austin, Texas. Father Quilter, the son of Mr. and Mrs.

Jerry L. Quilter, 702 First Avenue, Texas City, Texas, WAS born in Shreveport, La. on October 17, 1925. He received his pri-1 mary education in Louisiana and Texas and his secondary education in Texas City, Texas and San Francisco, California. He entered St.

Mary's Seminary in LaPorte, Texas in the fall of 1948, and just recently completed his seminary training at the newly built St. Mary's Seminary in Houston. Father Quilter will offer his first Solemn Mass in Texas City at St. Mary's Church on May 27 at 11:30 a.m. Rev.

C. F. Quinn, Asst. Pastor of St. Mary's Church in Houston, will deliver the sermon.

A reception, honoring the newly ordained priest, will be held during the afternoon of May 27 at Texas City Recreational Center from four to six. Father Quilter will say 8 Solemn High Mass with privileges of a First Mass in the Frydek Parish on Sunday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. He will be in Brookshire on Wednesday, May 30 and say at 7 a.m. and will say a High Mass in Brookshire on Rice Farmers Press Moving of Rice Local rice farmers flew Washington last week. The! trip to Washington was made in order that some attempt could be made to press the USDA and the Senators and Representatives to do something, about moving all the rice now in primary storage points and driers in the rice belt.

The board was greatly concerned that if something was not done immediately; that the rice growers would find themselves without a place to dry their rice this fall, consequently, such a situation would depress rice markets, force green rice sales at sacrifice prices, and in some instances prevent some farmers from even being able to harvest their crop. Trena Hilliard. Dan's Meat Market To Close In Brookshire Dan's Meat Market Brookshire has been closed this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Dan Frank owners of the market since February, say that the ness did not work out to their expectations, and that other made arrangements will that have been be to their advantage, Mrs. Frank will be busy caring for the couple's two will young daughters. The family continue to live in Brookshire at present.

The equipment is being sold and the building will be for rent. Mr. Frank will be employed in the meat department at Dube's Super Market in Katy after June 1st. Nine Men Donate Blood for Mrs. Belunek Nine men went to the Southwest Blood Bank in to give blood in the interest Houston on Friday morning of Mrs.

Joe Belunek. They were Ralph England, Jimmie Johnson, Gary Johnson, Joe Moore, Walter Egger, Ralph Waters, Vernon Schultz, Harris Garrett, and Chester Arrington. Mr. England says that if others can go they may do so between 9 a.m, and 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays.

Mrs. Boiles Is Supervisor of GOC Post Mrs. Z. S. Boiles has been chosen supervisor for Ground Observer Corps post in Brookshire for aircraft purpose identifying observing unusual weather conis in one Waller of 4 recently organized ditions.

Lions Softball Games Start Mon. Brookshire Lions League has been organized with the six teams. The first game is Monday, May 28, Sealy vs. Brookshire Lions. Other teams in the league are Brookshire Baptists, managed by John Bollinger, Katy Methodist managed by Halden Longenbaugh; Frydek Catholic, managed by Willie Kutra, Sealy team, and Hempstead.

Leon R. Graham To Address Katy Graduates Ralph Sloan High School Average 94.78 Patricia Franz High School Average 93.24 Distinguished Educator Visits Katy Schools Kamo! Prasitsa, Commissioner of Education of Thailand, visited the Katy schools Friday afternoon. He was accompanied by J. Hall of Harris County. pard, County Superintendent Commissioner Prasitsa will spend six months in the United States visiting and observing the educational program in the Public Schools of twelve States.

The foreign educator WAS greatly impressed with the Katy School and with the teaching facilities. Two Accidents Occur at Brookshire Patrolman Jerry Hancock reported an accident Friday afternoon in which George Barnes, a painter.of Velasco, driving a '56 Mercury, was headed north on Farm Road 359, when Otis Gene Larsen headed east of Seventh Street in Brookshire failed to grant the right of way and ran in front of Mr. Barnes, hitting his right front fender. Mr. Barnes received a deep cut on his knee, Mrs.

Barnes and the couples cousin, Dannie Barnes, 12, received lacerations, and head bruises. Two other children in the Barnes car were not injured, Mr. Hancock said. Tommy Rheman, a passenger in Otis' '55 Word, was bruised. There to both was extensive damage cars, the patrolman stated.

Charges of failing to grant the right of way have been filed against Mr. Larsen. Leeham Ehler of Schulenburg driving a '50 ran up behind Robert Rodriguez of Bellaire who was going around 35 miles per hour at 7:50 about last Sunday evening 1 miles east of Brookshire on Highway 90. In attempting to pass to avoid an accident, the two cars were in collision. Patrolman Chester Arrington reported that there were no Ehler's injuries to the occupants.

Ford had extensive damage, while there were minor damage to the '41 Chevrolet driven by Rodriguez, Leon R. Graham, Director, Projects in School Administration, Texas Education Agency, Austin, Texas, will deliver the Commencement address to the members of the Katy High School graduating class Thursday evening, at eight o'clock. The Valedictory and Salutatory addresses will be given by Ralph Sloan and tricia Franz respectively. Two special musical numbers which are to be rendered by members of the graduating class include a Clarinet Quartet composed of Nelda Kosina, Barbara Schoeneman, Mary Wilkinson, and Kathleen Wygrys, and a vocal solo by Donna Jo Thompson. The presentation of the class gift will be made by Jack Bierman, and acceptance in behalf of the school by Supt.

James E. Taylor. Senior and special awards will be made by. Principal Jack Bhodes. E.

Elder President of the Katy School Board will award the diplomas to the graduates. Eighth Grade To Receive Diplomas Friday Morning In a special assembly program at 9:20 Friday morning in the High School Auditorium, approximately 60 members of the eighth grade will be presented certificates of promotion by Superintendent James E. Taylor. Special awards and due recognition will be given those pupils who have excelled in scholarship, athletics, club activities, and etc. Winners of the V.

F. W. Auxiliary Essay Contest will be presented prizes by the President of the local auxiliary. Parents and friends are cordially invited to attend this program, R. R.

Bains Reese R. Bains Gets Promotion day, June 10th at 8 a.m. Rev. Quilter has assisted Father Lad Klimicek of Frydek during the summers He has conducted religious holiday seasons since 1947. summer schools, organized choirs and coached soft ball teams in Frydek and Brookshire.

Relatives and many friends are proud of Rev, Quilter. Rev. Quilter is the youngest of six children in the Quilter family. His sisters are Mrs. (Mattie Blanche) G.

M. Haney of Galveston, and Mra. Berl (Elizabeth) Gassare ner of Jerry, Brookshire; Jr. of brothers Rouge, and Charles of Pvt. Barnaky, British Columbia.

Bains has been promoted to assistant general foreman of the Labor and Brickmason Department in Mechanical and Construction Division at Humble Oil Refining Company's Baytown Refinery. Both he and his wife are from Brookshire, Mrs.

Bains is the former Ruby Edmondson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Edmondson.

After graduating at Brookshire high school Mr. Bains attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College, and was at one time co-owner of a general merchandise store in Brookshire. He joined Baytown Refinery in 1927, and a year later became a supervisor. Mr. and Mrs.

Bains live at 1904 Kentucky Street in Baytown where Mrs. Bains is an active member of First Baptist Church, and has for many years taught a Sunday School Class. Mr. Bains is a member of the Houston Consistory, the Valley of Houston and Orient of Texas, AF AM, land of the Methodist Church..
