The Conservative Party had always believed in main TO LAST taining stability in South-East Asia, he added. . "If we are restored to power we would discuss with our Asian friends and Australia and New Zealand what they propose and how we can manage," he said. - "But we are not going to impose ourselves on our friends." k MM REVOLUTIONARY tIEW rADDADTv X A till! CARDIGAN LANE; CAMPERDOWN 51-8714 51-7648 Mr Alistair Morrison, better known as Afferbeck Lauder, Professor of Strine studies at Sinney Yoony, arrived back yesterday with an identity problem. "A lot of people think my name is really Afferbeck Lauder," he said. "They genuinely believe there is a Sinney University with a Department of Strine Studies." "I get called Professor all the time. In fact, I get irritated if they don't," he said. Mr Morrison returned from a 17-month stay in Europe where he launched his new book "Fraffly Well Spoken" and where he worked on a new book which is "top secret" at the moment. Mr . Morrison, a graphic designer, got the idea for his Strine books from authoress Monica Dickens, who was fascinated by Australian speech during a visit here in 1964. A woman, requesting Miss Dickens to autograph a book, asked "Emma Chisit?" (How much is it?). Thinking Emma Chisit was the woman's name, Miss Dickens wrote it on the fly leaf: "Strine" was born. Mr Morrison has written two other Strine books, "Let Stalk Strine" and "Nose Tone Unturned." Secret "My real identity was a well-kept secret at first and a lot of people though Afferbeck Lauder was a real person," he said. Really, it's Strine for alphabetical order. "I remember one woman asked me once what I thought of Strine, without knowing who I was. "I told her I thought it was brilliant stuff and that the professor must be a very clever chap. "She told me in confidence that Afferbeck Lauder was really a language professor at Sydney University. "I promised not to tell anyone," said Mr Morrison. "I haven't made very much money out of the books not as much as I do as a graphic designer but I get a hell of a lot of fun out of it." AFFERBECK LAUDER . . . which is Strine for Alistair Morrison. THE N.S.W. Government has been asked to stop the drainage of swamps in the Northern Rivers district which provide drought refuge for duck and other waterfowl. The Nature Conservation Council of New South Wales and the New South Wales Field and Game Association have each called for a review of the flood mitigation schemes in the area. The secretary of the Nature Conservation Council, Dr Bruce R. Grant, said the continued existence of swamps were a vital part of the water-fowl conservation program of the State. While the council was aware of the importance of flood control, it felt planning at this stage could achieve the aims of flood mitigation and water-fowl conservation. tension headache?
