The Rev Winston O'Reilly, secretary-general of the Methodist Church of Australasia, has been named executive officer of the new Church's Joint Constitution Commission.

An ardent ecumenist who has "very strongly supported" ihe Uniting Australasia. He will assume this office in May. 1975, and will be its last incumbent. The Uniting Church is due to come into being on July 2, 1976. The Joint Constitution Commission will comprise 21 members three from each of the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational Churches.

Mr O'Reilly Reginald John Varley told the District Criminal Court yesterday that he had found cyanide In his cell after implicating police in a car sterling racket. At the time, he was being taken to police headquarters at varying times for interrogation.

He reported the matter to Detective-Inspector R. Douglass, who found a bottle of morphine in the lavatory.
