Clean-air plan for Pima County called inadequate Associated Press TUCSON A plan to clean up the brownish haze that hangs over city's skyline on winter mornings won't do the job, according to a an attorney seeking to clean up the air in Tucson and Pima County. "The plan is weakest when it comes to mass transit," according to David Baron, a lawyer for Arizona Center for Law in the Public Interest, which filed a federal lawsuit that sought to force Pima and Maricopa counties to clean up Obituaries Obituaries published by The Arizona Republic in its news columns are provided free of charge as a public service.

Kenneth H. Yunt Kenneth H. Yunt, 38, a soil scientist for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, died Nov. 30, 1986, at Desert Samaritan Hospital and Health Center.

Mr. Yunt, of Scottsdale, was born in Tucson. Survivors include his wife, Cathie; sons, Shaun and Brian; father, Harley Yunt; mother and stepfather, Marvel and Joe Anderson; and grandmother, Evalyn Klaiss. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Valley Funeral Home, 2545 N.

Tucson Tucson. Bertha Nichols Bertha Nichols, 88, a homemaker, died Nov. 28, 1986, at her daughter's residence in Phoenix. Mrs. Nichols, of Phoenix, moved to Arizona in 1937 from Oblong, where she was born.

She was a member of Bible Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Hugo daughter, Rosemary Goda; Jess Bishop and Charles Bishop; two sisters; seven grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave.

Irene Elizabeth Pence Irene Elizabeth Pence, 60, a homemaker, died Nov. 30, 1986, at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Mrs. Pence, of Phoenix, was born in Orangeburg, S.C., and moved to Arizona 34 years ago from South Dakota. Survivors include her husband, Donald daughters, Mary Lou Dennis, Edna Kim, Joyce Dickson and Ellen Killey; son, Ernie two sisters; a brother; and 13 grandchildren.

Berreth Albert A. Berreth, 74, a retired state distributor for Standard Oil died Nov. 30, 1986, at Mesa Lutheran Hospital. Mr. Berreth, of Mesa, was born in Texas and moved to Arizona in 1961 from South Dakota.

He was a member of the Masons and United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Opal; two sisters; and three brothers. Friends may call one hour and a half prior to services which will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Larry J. Melcher Mortuary chapel, 43 S.

The Tucson City Council and the Pima County Board of Supervisors must offer an air-quality plan and have it approved by the EPA by Dec. 31, or the EPA must begin actions to block highway funds. This is part of the tentative settlement reached in the lawsuit Feb. 18. If Baron is not satisfied with the Pima County pollution plan, he can call off the tentative settlement and continue to pursue his suit in U.S.

District Court here. World nation Archbishop dies; former papal nuncio United Press International WILKES-BARRE, Pa. Roman Catholic Archbishop Martin J. O'Connor, who guided North American College in Rome through its postwar years, died Monday at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. He was 86.

O'Connor, a native of Scranton, served in several administrative and diplomatic positions at the Vatican before he retired and returned to the United States in 1980. The Diocese of Scranton said services will be conducted Friday at St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton, where O'Connor served as pastor from 1934 to 1943. O'Connor was chosen in 1946 to rebuild North American College, which had been abandoned at the outbreak of World War II. The institution reopened to seminarians in 1948, and O'Connor served as rector until 1964.

He was named titular archbishop' of Laodicea in Syria in 1959 and served as papal nuncio to Malta from 1965 to 1969. O'Connor was ordained as a priest in Rome in 1924. He became auxiliary bishop of Scranton in 1943. and served as pastor of St. Mary's Church in Wilkes until his North American College appointment.

Frank Ayraud Frank Ayraud, 66, a proofreader for Phoenix Newspapers, for 36 years before Nov. 30, 1986, in Valley hospital. Mr. Ayraud was born and resided in Phoenix. Following his retirement, he developed and built apartments.

He was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix College and was a past of the Arizona Press Club, a charter member of Phoenix Press Club and member of the Masons and the Boy Scouts.
