They said they also believe the show's success is due in large part to the persona of Cosby, as well as to the nature of the show's comedy. Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner, the producers, say that the two shows, which are being planned jointly with Bill Cosby, are still in the writing stage. Like The Cosby Show, each will feature a well-known star and "celebrate the small moments of life." One of the shows will revolve around Ixma Home, the actress and singer, who will portray a woman living with her 18-year-old granddaughter.

The other will feature Colleen Dewhurst and Gloria Foster, who will play fifth- and sixth-grade elementary school teachers. "Neither pilot has anything to do with The Cosby Show, Werner said, "but Bill Cosby's whole point of view will be apparent in the tone of these two projects honesty and the same sort of human comedy coming out of the characters a warmth." Brandon Tartikoff, president of NBC's Entertainment Division, confirmed that two projects are in development for the network and that under an agreement with Cosby at least one would likely be broadcast in September 1986. Although Carsey, Werner and Cosby would not elaborate on the new projects, iDavid Brokaw, a spokesman for Cosby, said, that the one starring Home also will feature Clarence Williams, an actor known for his role in the long-running television series Mod Squad. It is to be written by Bill Gunn, a playwright and Emmy Award-winning television writer. Brokaw, said that no writer had been selected for the project set in an elementary school.

The Cosby Show, broadcast Thursdays at 7 p.m. on KPNX-TV (Channel 12), has surpassed Dallas and Dynasty in popularity, and has become a huge moneymaker for the network. A 30-second slot on the show currently 'sells for $300,000, whereas two years ago a slot in the same time period sold for $70,000, according to Tartikoff.
