Oklahoma drove 74 yards on 11 plays as Ross scored at the 1:41 mark of the quarter on a four-yard run. Micheal Keeling missed the extra point and K-State led at halftime, 21-fi. "In the first half, Kansas State took the ball and kicked our butts," OU head coach Barry Switzer said. "We were just wallowing around out there." K-State held the ball for a mind- boggling 24 minutes and 22 seconds in the first half compared to just 5:38 for Oklahoma and outgained the Sooners in total offense 253 yards to 84.

But the second half proved to be a different story. Oklahoma twice fumbled the ball away deep in KSU territory (12 and 2-yard lines), but finally punched across a touchdown when Ross raced in from 12 yards out with 37 seconds left in the third quarter. Rhymes ran in the two-point conver- qion to cut the K-State lead to 21-14. It was still a seven-point lead for the Wildcats when disaster struck minutes left in the game. 'Forced to punt into a strong wind from his own end zone, Keeling managed to get the ball only out to the -Oklahoma 32.

K-State's Phil Switzer -failed to handle the punt and OU's -Rocky Hubble recovered the fumble. It took the Sooners six plays to 87 yards as Shepard went 20 up the middle on a wishbone to pull Oklahoma within one "'point, 21-20, with 6:46 remaining. The -two-point pass failed, leaving KSU -with the lead. third-and-18 from its own 32. Hundley quick-kicked the ball to the Oklahoma 40 with 3:34 remaining, but it took the Sooners just four plays to score the winning TD. On first down at the K-State 49, Shepard raced around right end, picked up a pair of blocks by the sideline and raced in for the score with 2:31 left. His two-point conversion run a little later gave OU a 28-21 lead. "I just ran straight to the goal line," said Shepard, who piled up 234 yards of total offense in the game.

"The whole unit spring the play for me." A last-minute rally failed to materialize for K-State as Dickey had a pass intercepted by OU's Elbert Watts at the KSU 40 with 2:22 remaining. K-State, now 1-4 in conference play and 2-7 overall, travels to Oklahoma State this Saturday, while Oklahoma will be at Missouri. PERU, Neb. Kansas Wesleyan's miseries continued here Saturday afternoon. Wesleyan saw its losing streak reach four games as Peru State manhandled the Coyotes, 66-0, behind senior tall- back Alvin Holder, who rushed for 236 yards and one touchdown.

Peru State, which ends the season 72, gained 530 yards of total offense to Wesleyan's 129 and piled up 27 first downs to seven for the visitors. The Bobcats did not punt in the game. Kansas Wesleyan fell to 2-6-1 and concludes its season next Saturday when the Coyotes meet Kansas Conference champion Bethany. "They did about everything they wanted they passed, they ran and they played good defense," said KW coach Jon Bingesser. "They just handled us pretty well." Peru's Jeff Frields kicked six extra points and a school-record 48-yard field goal.

The second-quarter field goal broke the record of 43 yards set by Dale Patton in 1976. Nine Peru players scored touchdowns. Quarterback Mike Haney opened the scoring with a 25-yard pass to freshman flanker Wilbert Lock. Haney later completed a 20-yard pass to Doug Barlow for another touchdown. Harold Noirfalise brought Southern back with a pair of touchdowns taking a 3-yard pass from Marty Schoenthaler for the first score and adding a 1-yard touchdown run. Husker coach Tom Osborne said he was surprised by the way his club overwhelmed the Cowboys.

"I thought we would win, but I thought it would be a real tough ball- game and low scoring, maybe 14-10," Osborne said. "I had no idea we could score 30 points, let alone 50 points against the defense we have been seeing on film." The Cowboys' lone touchdown came with six minutes left in the third period when quarterback Rusty Hilger, replacing starter John Doerner, connected with flanker Ron Ingram in the end zone. Doerner left the game with a reinjury of his ankle. Craig's 69-yard touchdown run followed a Cornhusker first down by penalty awarded because Oklahoma State roughed punter Grant Campbell. (UPI) Freshman kicker Puad Reveiz booted a 29- yard field goal with nine seconds remaining Saturday to lift Tennessee to a 24-21 victory over Wichita State in a mistake-riddled Homecoming contest. The Vols' winning score was set up by a 92-yard drive that stalled at the Wichita State 12-yard line. Senior quarterback Steve Alatorre came off the bench in the second half and engineered two touchdown drives as the Vols, now 5-3, battled back from a 13-7 halftime deficit. Tailback James Berry scored from the one for a third-quarter touchdown to put the Vols ahead 14-13. Later in the quarter, Berry scored again on a 1- yard run set up by a 57-yard pass from Alatorre to tight end Mike Gofer.

Wichita State, now 4-5-1, had jumped to a 7-0 lead, but Tennessee tied the score in the second quarter on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Olszewski to Anthony Hancock. Quarterback Prince McJunkins was awesome in the first two periods, arid put the Shockers on top at the half with touchdown runs of 29 yards and 20 yards. After the Vols went up 21-13, McJunkins directed a 64-yard drive that was capped by him diving in from the one for the score. McJunkins connected on a pass to tight end Anthony Jones for the two-point conversion that tied the score 21-21 with 10:07 left. Tennessee, which fumbled six times in the game, then staged a long drive but Alatorre fumbled at the Two plays later, McJunkins hit Jones with a pass that covered 67 yards.
