The tour, including a cocktail party and a silent, auction, costs $4.50. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase equipment for the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf and to support the Institute of Logopedics, a speech clinic, in Wichita, Kan.

Alumnae of the social sorority Kappa Alpha Theta are sponsoring the home tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cocktail party, with no-host drinks, will be from 7 to 10 p.m. at the James McDougall home, 239 W. Flynn.

The three tour houses are those of Gene and Betty Rouse, 79 Biltmore Estates; Richard and Unda Whitney, 5735 Harding Drive; and Doug and Peggy Sandahl, 5400 E. Valley Vista. The center of interest in the Rouse home is a polished-chrome 1928 Mercedes SSK Roadster one of three existing models that is in the family room. Rouse, president of Water Pik views his Biltmore Estates home primarily as a fun retreat, according to interior designer Patricia Edmunds. -The couple also included a miniature golf cotir.se, pool and tennis court as part of their formal Spanish Mediterranean-style home.

The two-story entryway is flanked by beveled and stained glass. The master bedroom suite and richly paneled upstairs library are connected by a bridge. The living room is dramatized with a curved two-story window from which off-white, fringed silk draperies hang. Accent colors for white-on-white fabrics are apricot and blue. The Whitney home features natural materials such as pecky cypruB wood and exposed aggregate concrete.

The 17-year-old house has stone floors and concrete pillars with undraped windows to establish a close indoor-outdoor relationship. The Whitneys consider their home a statement in opposition to what they term "a plastic world." Lime gTeen is the accent color. A patio off the family room looks over a rolling lawn to the pool. A small apartment addition permits visitors privacy from family activities. The Sandahl home atop Camelback Mountain currently is the location for the filming of Nightkill, a movie starring Robert Mitchum and Jaclyn Smith.

Features of the house include a double-door entry that opens at night to the lights of the city, Mika Smrth Republic Richard and Linda Whitney's family room sports walls of natural materials and a stone floor. jade-green walls contrasting with splashy chintz prints in main living areas, and a wood staircase leading to a discotheque on the lower level.
