The Arizona Republic August 5, '79 FM-5 DION'S Minding Miss Manners Le Wig Shoppe Qotheshorses may shed white on holiday est. 1962 The toast wasn't the way he likes it, or at least that's what he said, and he yelled at the toaster. We think he was really mad at Mother, but he didn't say anything to her, but kept banging at the poor innocent toaster. He was completely out of control. Isn't that considered bad manners? IIP ooh la lp jjr DEAR READER: Labor Day is the first day for wearing fall clothes, but the only people who do so are candidates for the Miss America title and do they ever look silly, running around on the boardwalk in their wool suits in all that heat.

White shoes may not be worn after Labor Day. And for full fall regalia, please wait for the first cool day or the first snowfall, whichever comes first. DEAR MISS MANNERS: When my father gets In a bad mood, he screams and shouts and carries on over the least little thing. This morning, it was the toaster. By JUDITH MARTIN DEAR MISS MANNERS: I promise you, I didnt start wearing white shoes until Memorial Day, which you said was the first possible time to do so, regardless of the weather.

But when do I start wearing dark things? I wouldn't dream of changing from summer clothes until you tell me to, but I would appreciate your letting me know in advance, as we get a lot of snow here and I'd hate to be left standing here in my white shoes and sundress, waiting for your answer. 994 8833 22 Fashion Square Mall DEAR READER: No, and that is not considered being out of control, either. Everyone must shout once in a while, and it is both correct and disciplined to remember then that appliances are meant to be shouted at, but people are not Comelback Scottsdale Rd. "I LET OUT a whoop that could be heard for blocks," he said, recalling the day he received written notice from the commission that he had been chosen the winner out of 265 Arizona entries.

"I couldn't believe my luck," he said. "I didn't think I had a chance when I entered the contest, but I submitted two chapters of a novel I'm writing and 14 poems anyway. I've only lived in Phoenix for a year and a half and had no idea how stiff the competition was." Johnson has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa. He also attended a writers' workshop in the graduate school at the university. His works have appeared in the American Poetry Review, Iowa Review, Poetry, Atlantic and Three Stances of Modern Fiction by R.
