However, we really enjoy this week as much or maybe more than the Christmas selling. For one thing, it gives us a chance to meet the person for whom the gift was purchased.

Often times, men come to ou shop and we just have to wonde what the girl looks like and secondly and perhaps about th best part of it for us we usually sell her more. Now this isn't a planned dea nor do we make an issue of it but when she sees the many things we have to offer, temptation rears its lovely head! You'll find it especially diffi- lowing the finding of about $100 worth of beer and liquor stolen from the Legion and hidden in a wooded area near the scene of the burglary. Police kept a stake-out, awaiting the burglars' return. Investigation by police revealed that the two young men had also stolen the car of Enoch Smith, Milesburg, and had damaged it in an accident on Route 220, about two miles from the scene of the burglary. Haines lost control of the stolen car and it went over an embankment, police said.

the wake of iPresident Johnson's meeting with Pope Paul VI, re ports spread in Vatican circles today that the pontiff will sem a peace mission soon to North Vietnam. It was impossible to confirm whether the reports were leaks inspired by leading Vatican officials preparing the ground for such a mission, or simply logical speculation. The reports first appeared in the Turin daily La Stampa. considered usually well informed on Vatican affairs. Afternoon Rome dailies later carried much the same story.

There was no joint communi- que issued after the Pope and Johnson met the night of Dec. 23. The President stopped off in Rome on his way home from Australia to discuss Vietnam with the Pope. Johnson said afterward he would agree to stop the U.S. bombings if the principle of mutual restraint was also accepted 'by North Vietnam.

He told the Pope American war prisoners held in Nor Vietnam were being denied their rights. He also added would be keeping in touch wifh the pontiff in the days ahead on the Vietnamese issue. The La Stampa story said: "After the meeting between Johnson and Paul it is expected that soon a Vatican delegation will be sent to North Vietnam." It said the initial purpose would be to obtain more humane treatment prisoners, for but American war that this would provide the chance for political contacts with the hope of preparing the way for preliminary talks aimed at starting peace negotiations.
