'Plea to Here is an excellent" way to bridge the generation gap in the school hols and have a laugh as well.

All the teenage monsters you have leant to love on television in Fenn Street's 5C are let loose on a rural holiday camp with "Sir (John Alderton), in charge of the chaos. The kids are all text book cases from unhappy homes, and are thoroughly revolting. Somehow, of course de voted innocent Sir believes in them and all ends wel after some ghastly bad moments. "Potter" (Derjck Giiy- ler) is great fun as the toadying school porter. une or tne worst is when the man-eating domestic science mistress, traps Sir on the holiday camp assault course.

APADSTOW 22 Hovrui Hi' 778334 jJIcw Jim Brown. The story is a medley of trite science fiction and horror movie cliches under a thin veneer of sophistication: a deadly alien virus brought back to earth by a space capsule and a team of dedicated' scientists work against time, political interference, personality clashes and the threat of a nuclear, explosion, to contain the menace. But there is an almost hypnotic fascination to the slow-paced, detailed, scientific analysis of the problem, and to the collection of buzzing, flashing and clicking scientific gadgets that dominate the lot. With the exception of Kate Reid as the mordant, irascible, lady scientist, none of the players act well. But although the fiction is wooden, it's hard not to be gripped by the science (NRC, Ascot).

'Baffle of Algiers' A six-year-old prize-winning Italian film in the best tradition of the early post war realist cinema, this is an astonishing feat of reconstructed documentary. Shot in black and white and imperceptibly merged with real documentary scenes, it presents an impressively unbiased account of the horror-filled years of revolution and military rule in Algiers during the 1950s. Topical in its similarity to the present Irish agony, it shows the tragic bomb outrages, the desperate military reprisals in a way which is fine cinema, involving the viewer in the situation while presenting it in clear focus (NRC, Classic, Mosman). 'Minnie and M'oskowifz' With lots of slap, a good bit of thumping and a bit of tickle, lovely, lonely Minnie Moore and aggressively lonely Seymour Moskowitz discover true love, Californian-style. That's what John Cassi-vertes' "Minnie and Moskowitz" is all about.

This human comedy (it's both human and funny) was the much praised surprise of the 1972 Sydney Film Festival. Gena Rowlands plays -Minnie and, Cassle Seymour, Moskowitz, with excellent support. Tempestuous and pathetic scenes with other love-seekers intersperse the. four-day affair. It ends with a crazy restaurant meeting of the mothers and a traditional chapel Sf DANA ANDREWS, TY TONIGHT ONLY- CLASSIC COLLAROY 98 8668 "MAM GV MS WSV eOy V)MS)ss Hit.

'Road Runner Bugs Bunny' Despite its title, this is not a full-length film, but art anthology of Warner Brothers cartoons dating over the last 10 years or so. Most, though not all, do feature the Road Runner; a rather enduring bird who spends his time rushing from place to place occasionally saying "Beep "Jeep" and being pursued by the Coyote whose insanely ingenious bird-catching plans invariably backfire. (G, Rapallo day sessions). 'The Barefoot Executive' Disney has done it before with such stars as a duck, a cat, or a Volkswagen. The sure-fire formula is used, again this time with a solemn little champanzee called Raffles.

Story just right for TV-orientated kids is that Raffles, a desperate TV addict, has tastes in TV programs which coincide exactly with the American viewing public. There is a side-swipe here at juvenile intelligence level which lends an ironic touch to the clean cut American Disney finish. Raffles unerringly picks the top rated shows and becomes a valuable hidden asset to a television station (G, Liberty and suburbs). 'Buck and the Preacher' In a predominately black cast, Sidney Poirier's ex-sergeant of cavalry and Harry Belafonte's scoundrelly travelling preacher make a shooting and robbing team that raises echoes of the happy mischief-making of Butch Cassidy. Only this time the shooting is real, and the black victims of white fire, rape and plunder in the wake of Civil- War bitterness make a sombre background to their dashing retaliatory sorties.

Poitier directed the film to bring out the poignant side of a period in which freed were trying to establish "new frontier settlements, and has succeeded even at the expense of his own natural effervescence.
