Ms Allison Penrose, 27, and her two sons, Travis, 15 months, and Jake, 4, were found dead in their beds on Monday evening. Ms Penrose had been bashed around the head and strangled. The children had been suffocated. Detective Inspector Peter Woods said the post-mortems had revealed an approximate time of death but he was not prepared to issue details. Neighbours last saw the family on Sunday evening outside their West Dapto home. The children's father, Mr Sandor Cikos, 39 who has supplied a blood sample to assist the investigation told police he left for work at 6 am on Monday and made the discovery when he returned at 6 pm. He was due to appear at a media conference but decided against it after receiving legal advice. Instead, Ms Penrose's family stepped in yesterday, saying the triple murder was "unbelievable and unthinkable". Shaking uncontrollably and barely able to speak, Ms Penrose's mother, Mrs Norma Penrose, sobbed throughout the brief media conference as her son, Wayne, said: "This bastard's got to be caught" The boys' grandfather, Mr Allan Penrose, said: "We have a Christmas tree at home with my grandsons' presents under it and there's not going to be a Christmas for them. "Somebody must know something." He said their daughter, Sandor, and the children had visited them last Saturday. "We all played together as usual in the backyard, played with the dogs and then they left and went home." He said his daughter was a devoted mother who would do anything for her two sons. "They were her world. For something like this to happen, it's unbelievable. It doesn't happen." Police said there was no sign of forced entry and no apparent motive. "We're limited to what we actually know at the moment," Ms Penrose's brother, Rod, said. "It's unexpected, out of the blue, unprepared-for. We don't know much at this stage." Her other brother, Wayne, said information was needed to help the police, who had done a magnificent job so far. "Anyone at all, family friends, friends of Allison: if you know anything, come forward, let the police know. This bastard's got to be caught" Death in Dapto - Page 42 I am woman, but call me nerd pi7 L I T " X p f- If it ""'B1W ssss in t J 'frit 'I -'TiUL tin I snv&. She has a personal trainer five mornings a week back home in Santa Monica, California, and her daily yoga routine involves scraping her tongue with a toothbrush. She says she could be described as a nerd. . But there is a cheeky sparkle in the eyes of the woman who penned and sang an anthem that inspired a generation : she lives an international life and occasionally hangs out with a young Brazilian lover. She is a fount of advice. "Don't get married, enjoy your life," she said. "I went through a lot of miserable years to get to this point. I wish I'd known when I was young that I would eventually be happy it would have made getting through the rough times so much easier. '- . i 1 "Go to a sperm bank" . . . "Because, otherwise, you will never have him out of your life. Not only will your children always be his children but your grandchildren will be his grandchildren and you will have him in your life until you die. So I say, go to a sperm bank." I am woman ! Say the name Helen Reddy and punters, even blokes, will respond with the title of her most famous song, released in 1972. It went to No 1 in the United States and became a mini-anthem for the feminist movement in the 1970s. Melbourne-born Reddy was a serious star. Raised in a showbusiness family, she moved to the US and won a Grammy, had her own television shows and numerous top-1 0 hits, starred in movies, sang with Kermit the Frog, had two kids called Traci and Jordan and three marriage bust-ups the one to her second husband, Jeff Wald, was particularly acrimonious. In the course of her career she has released 20 albums, but her creativity has now moved to the stage. Ironically, she is presently working on a play in Florida called J do, I do and will perform at a new Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras concert in February. She is unsure of how big her gay or lesbian following is: "I don't think I have the gay male following that a Streisand or a Minelli has. . ." She is nonplussed by the fan thing. In Australia on a four-week trip from her home in California, she spends her days dining at Cosmo in Double Bay and tends to steer clear of fancy events. While she did attend the Australian Film Industry awards and chatted to Nicole Kidman about cracked ribs, she opted out of the Fox Studios opening to spend time in her house on Norfolk Island. Reddy is related to many of the islanders and her cousin Cedric Newton Ion-Robinson is married to the writer Colleen McCullough.
