Justice Einfeld, 58, is the son of the late NSW MP Syd Einfeld, hose life did much to inspire the younger Einfeld's idealism.

He has served as chairman of Legal Resources International Inc, a non-Government organisation funded by lawyers and such bodies as the World Bank and Commonwealth Secretariat, hich is dedicated to advising dev eloping countries on establishing proper systems for democracy and justice. He has advised the Palestinians on how to establish a legislative council and negotiated with the likes of Yasser Arafat. He witnessed deficiencies such as the lack of reference books which the Palestinians could refer to and has helped establish their library. He went to Bosnia during the fighting, visited refugee camps and realised that peace could never be achieved until the war criminals were brought to trial.

Photograph by dean sewell By MALCOLM BROWN Justice Marcus Einfeld, Federal Court judge, former president of the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission, has no discomfort about having shed tears 1 1 years ago hen inquiring into causes of a riot at the Toomelah Aboriginal mission in the State's north. The display of emotion made headlines, but the conditions at Toomelah, as elsewhere across the nation, brought widespread publicity and a push for change. Sadly, the injustice was not restricted to that situation or that group of people. Marcus Einfeld has now received the award as Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia, for service to international affairs and the protection of human rights. His campaign for justice has taken him out of the court and into the human rights commission in 1986, here he served four years, and into the international arena to Palestine, the Caribbean, Rwanda and Bosnia.

His concern has been about the disadvantaged, the vulnerable, the oppressed. It has existed throughout the course of history, but addressing it is not so huge that Marcus Einfeld is daunted. "Of course you cannot change the he said. "That does not mean you should withdraw from any effort to improve the lot of as many people as you can. Gong brings rock roll to Order By RICHARD JINMAN Entertainment Writer Michael Chugg laughs at the suggestion that his appointment as a member in the General Division AM of the Order of Australia means rock 'n' roll is finally respectable.

"Yeah, I'm pretty proud of it, but it's really great for mum and dad," joked Mr Chugg, who has been honoured for service to music and the performing arts, particularly in relation to the promotion of Australian artists and fundraising for youth and children's charities. "It'll probably keep them alive for another 10 years." Tasmanian-born Mr Chugg as 16 hen he organised his first pop concert a benefit for his cycling club.
