of the stockholders of the De troit Scientific Association was held last evening at the Museum of Art to devise means for the placing of their superb col lection under the roof of art build ing Dr McGraw acted as chairman of the meeting The conditions under which the association can procure a ten lease in the museum are that they shall fit up the west wing and make it present able The placing of the collection there means that ultimately the museum will be resented with the collection although the articles of association of the Scientific So ciety prevent such a complete merging at present Appreciating these facts natur ally the trustees of the museum are desir ous of taking in the collection under the conditions named and the association is no less dtsirous of being taken in and being provided with what will undoubtedly prove a permanent abiding place That such action is much to be desired is all the more ariarent from the fact that rederick Stearns is ready to donate his before heard a voice that com pared with this in range or execution or purity Her method is as wonderful as her compass She seems to be positively with out the ability to utter a falsetto note As she goes higher and higher her voice seems to grow purer sweeter more flute like more superhuman and always under her perfect control to do with exactly as she wills from the earth clear up to heaven and back again Her voice has those pecu liar tone qualities of the purling brook in a quiet glen or a singing bird on a clear spring morning When she had finished the song" the audience was com pletely hers It is to be remembered also that the audience was composed of the city's most critical and discriminating musical people There were repeated and enthusiastic encores and flowers and ex clamations of open delight in all parts of the Tliefli Reported Yesterday The following thefts were reported to the police yesterday: red Bolxhauer 1341 Kir by avenue east barn entered and tools and chickens to congratulations over his success They began to come in before he had his breakfast in the way of telegrams from out of the city and over the telephone from friends in the city Robert Oakman is the man who got left on the deal He had every reason to ex pect that Mayor Pingree intended to send his name to the council in fact he was told to get a list of aidermen that would vote for his confirmation and it would be done That came from a close frlen 1 of the mayor Then he was told to get up a petition for his appointment and did so securing one with several thousand signa tures on it from the members of labor or ganizations especially That made him sure of success and so confident vas he that he resigned his post as assistant assessor The resignation left a vacancy in tle list cf assistant a candi date for the office A vacancy exist in one or the $11Y) clerkships but it has not been derided who will vet It Robert Oakman has done so much for Mayor Pinrree that it is most likely a place will be found for him somewhere Tom Gibson takes his feat most philosophi cally and ascribes it to not having time to talk with the aidermen Rut it he had had a time it would have done him no good without the full Pinxree influence The mayor has al ways been able to command nineteen votes on all propositions he sent to the council with the exception of the nomination of Messrs arns worth and Gibson and why he fell down there no one explains It is said though In the may circle ot friends that goose was cooked at the meetirtr of the anti ring aidermen held Tuesday afternoon and that twenty
