Cherokee Cemetery Meeting to Be Held Again Friday Evening It was decided at tbe Cherokee Cemetery Assn.

Plans are being formulated to secure a NYA project to improve and beautify the Cherokee cemetery and details will be discussed at the meeting this Friday evening at the community tabernacle. Among the improvements hoped to be undertaken in the proposed NYA project include 316 feet of cement sidewalk 4 feet wide in front of the cemetery, 2 large columns at the doable gate, with an arched entrance; feet of cement curbing for driveway, 824 feet curbing for flower pruning trees and white-wasb- ng them along driveway, graveling all grave mounds, ixing markers and clearing and beautifying entire cemetery. Kelly, Win Pennant at FFA Meet At the District Future Farmers of America meet at Lampasas last Friday in which some 300 competed in the various events, two San Saba FFA boys came back with a handsome pennant for winning 3rc place in the diving and swimming contests. J.

T. Kelly Jr. won first in the 220-yard swim contest anc Waddie Smithhart was 2nd in the 60-yard swim dash, among othei contests. There were supposed to be 11 from San Saba to go but only these two boys showed up, with thei'r new instructor, Ace Howell. Waddie said, "Next year well bring back some first place pennants for San Saba." There were some ten towns competing in the contests this year.

Webb. Who Had Been Frail Health. Goes to Reward. This week the death of Mrs, W. E.

Webb is chronicled. She passed on Taesday 7:10 a.m., at the home of Mrs. J. J. Duey, who had been caring for her daring her illness caused possibly by the weaknesses of old age.

She had been ill since February. Mrs. Webb was 80 years having been bom Jan. 13 in Tennessee. She was married to Mr.

Webb ea 17, 1891. He preceded her death in 1933. They had lived in Pecan Grove since 1906, when thev came to this county. Funeral rites for Mrs. Webb were conducted at the W.

Little Sons Funeral Home here, Wednesdav afternoon, the Rev. S. T. J. M.

West was in charge of the singing, when beautiful old hymns were sung. Interment was in the local cemetery and casket bearers were J. Wal- cer, Fletcher Lackey, Pearl Johnson Smith. Joe Terry and George Munsell. Surviving the deceased are her nephew.

San Saba to Get New Practicing Attorney Atty. Walter Gates of Houston and Austin announced yesterday that he and his family plan to locate permanently in and are now house hunting. Mrs. Gates is a San Saba girl, being Theima, the thiyl daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Sam T. Taylor, long-time residents of San Saba. They have one daughter, Marcelyn, who is a sophomore in high school. Mrs. Gates, who was reared here, is a vocalist and plans on accepting pupils in voice training a little later.

Mr. Gates has practiced law in various places but in recent years mostly in and Austin. San Saba extends a welcome to the Gates family. MR, AND MRS. J.

W. SHOOK OFF TO WESTERN COAST Mr. and Mrs. J. W.

Shook left Wednesday morning with her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Daimon Nixon, of Llano, on a two weeks 1 vacation trip to the West Coast. They expect to visit Carlsbad Caverns, Juarez, the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, then to San Francisco for the Fair, and homeward via Salt Lake City. MEETINGS AT ALGERITA START FRI.

D. Robertson. Three San Saba Courtty Indian Fighters Left Only three men are living who fought the Indians in San Saba County in the early days, said Hugh Miller yesterday. "They are Newt Brown, Richland Springs, Joe Harkey, who was sheriff here 57 years ago, now of New Mexico, and Lum McDaniel, of Algerita. There were of course many more but as far as 1 know now these three are all that are still living," Mr.

Carl Bryant Wins Trip on Ford Car Sales to Roundup Fire Chief Carl Bryant, Ford Desman with Golding Reid, local Ford dealers, received a telegram Tuesday notifying him that he was winners in the recent Ford Round-up Contest in the branch district and has been awarded a free trip to the Round-up outing at Twin Points, Eagle Mountain Lake, near Fort Worth, from day noon to Friday noon of this week. The award was made for nigh sales during the months of June and July. This is the second year Carl has won this coveted honor. r.

QUINNS MOVING TO AUSTIN FOR 3 YEARS Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Quinn plan on moving to Austin this week to make their home for the next two or three years, while their daughter, and Newell Wells attend the State University.

Louise has three years yet and Newell two years. Mr. Quinn, who was a rural mail carrier here for more than 30 vears and very active in the San Saba" Masonic for many years, will miss san Saba and the entire family wih be missed by many friends here Quinns expect be back now RTid then and they will keep in touch old friend? here thru the San Miss Johnnye West enjoyed last week's vacation from her duties at the Hotel Beauty Shop, in her home town, Putnam. E. M. Knapp of Oklahoma City visited in the home of Mrs. Fred Gunter the past week and they are leaving for home Thursday. Milton Harris, who has been ill, is now able to be out again, whicn is good news to his many friends.

Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Weatherby and son, Bert, of Fort Worth visited San Saba last week-end.

Mrs. Wiley Robbins has had her sister, Mrs. Shelton from Waco visiting her and other relatives the last two weeks. Mr. and John Patterson, have movv-d from Mason to Brownwood.

Campbell, mother of Hayden. who had been visiting; here with them, to Dallas last week, where she intended to visit a week before returning to her home in Poteau, Okla. The Haydens remained in Dallas a few days for a visit. Mr. and Mrs.

Morris Gerhardt. who uv-nj to New York City two months ago to visit her parents and other relatives, and underwent an operation on her nose, will remain there probably two weeks longer. She is getting along well and enjoying the visit as well as seeing the Fair Said Mr. Gerhardt: "We'll be mighty glad to have her back, when she comes. Mrs Buster Morrison returned from Temple Sunday, where she had been at the bedside of her ill husband at the Scott White hospital.
