by the spirit shown at the annual meeting of the Detroit Tennis association in the offices of the Detroit Trust Co last night this city will have a tennis club that it can feel proud of or some of the devotees of the game here will die in the attempt About 40 enthusiasts of the sport harkened to the appeal for aid in the matter and every individual promised his heartiest co operation in making a success of what Detroit has been larking for a number of years AWhat is wanted most of all at this period is 'a considerable in in the number of members and when that is reallzed the more Important work of raising funds to purchase a plot of ground on which the new cJub house will be creeled will be within Its grasp It was Impressed upon those present last night that more mem bers are needed to carry out the work in view and after that the rest would coine easy If fte pres ent membership can be increascj to 150 it is planned to acquire the property bounded by erry reder ick Brush and Beaubien streets1 which can be secured at a reason able price from the owner erry Mr erry offered to sell on the contract basis There is no reason why Detroit have a tennis club that wuhld equal or even surpass other cities of its size And that is what Detroiters are becoming more and more impressed with daily As a rule the devotees of tho game are hustlers and some of their activ ity they have promised to put Into the work ahead Several other business details were discussed chiefly the matter of increase in dues should every thing come out as desired It was suggested to Increase theT Initia tion fee to $25 and make the yearly dues $15 However it was merely a suggestion and no aelion was taken on the matter Those who attended the meeting promised to put their shoulders to the wheel and to enlist the aid of as many others as it is possible to secure It means plenty of hard work but this is a splendid chance to accomplish the ends in view and It is going to be pushed to tje fullest
