Outhe talis last cvenine there were 8X teet steamboat water, down either the Indian or middle chutes, though tbe pilots did not report over 7 feet up stream water the middle chute The tide continues high at PittBburg, with no ice or other impediments to. navigation, and times improving in that quarter with the departure of more coal.

It is a great invention lor sheet-iron workers.

The natural obstructions In the river are damaging and troublesome enough to the boatmen, without, erecting bridgo nuisances every hundred miles or so along nature's groat highway. Tbo planters ceuerslly jvel secure as lornr as the epriog freshets are confined io either the Ohio or Mississippi, and in former times, when their levees wero intact, tney could withstand ordinary high water coming at once from both Bources. This, their only dread, was tbe Arkansas river, and it now appears that tbe much dnaded ArkaneaB Is at a high tide. At Little Bock yesterday twenty teet water was reported, with heavy rains in that region.

We think the people along tbe lower waters should prepare for tbe worst. Al Terre Haute ihe Wabash wob riBing rapidly, at last acaonuts, and was within lour and one half leet of tbe great Good murks in that stream. In mentioning this packet yesterdav we designated her aB the flrst boat entered in the Louisville and New Orleans trade, aud we can add that ehe has never been in any other trade. The underwriters should encourage good, stanch, well provided bolts by a classification oi rates that will make it a necessity to have good boats. Tbo Louisville trade is represented wholly of good boats, all but oneortwoof which Bbould be classified as No. 1, while the occasional crafts that are plying np and down the river are tar, very far interior to the regular boat.

and in justice to our underwriters we elated that they cross them oul, or off their books, yet they manage to eet insurance el Be where, which has caused the complaints above mentioned. A CoRnEonon In a late numberof the Vicks-bure Timee, reference to the laet trip of the Belle Lee, appears the following: She led New Orleans at flv o'clock Wednesday evening, the Natcnez packet.
