This destructive insect 13 increasing and extending its ravages in this State. It has appeared in Boone, Howard, Pike and Marion counties during the last week, devouring young Wheat, Blue Grass, Oats, Corn and Timothy meadows, stripping them as bare as it' they had been blasted. Wheat that is pretty well advanced is not much injured by them, but young and tender Wheat is eaten clean from the field. These insects are the most destructive known to farmers, as they appear in myriads, and there is no way of arresting their progress. This season their approach is from the South.

They have made their appearance some parts of Illinois and accounts from Kentucky represent that they are ravaging the Wheat fields of that State, also. St. fjouis News, 1st. Horrible 'Affair A 3Ian Shoots his Wife and Paramour. At Cow Bayou, six miles Ironi Walnut Bend, last Thursday, Win.

H. Robinson was shot by T. J. Dale, under the following circumstances. The Memphis Bulletin gives the following particulars It appears that Robinson ami Bale are -partners in the management of a farm on which they lived, Robinson being the proprietor and Dale the operator.

Last Wednesday Dale thought he discovered some trace of improper intimacy between Robinson, who boarded in bis house, and his wife. So on Thursday morning he determined to test the matter, and for that purpose arose early and went ostensibly to put the servants to work, but instead of doing so, he shortly after returned to the house, and finding Robinson in bed with his wife, he shot him in the face, chest and arms, from which he shortly after died. A stray shot penetrated the brain of Mrs. Dale killing her instantly. At last accounts Dale was at large, no one feeling called upon to prosecute him.
