will not say what they think of the story but they are not vet through with the Investigation and they look upon the arrest as an important one Schoenthal hud been employed by the company about four years before the strike began There is practically no change In the strike situation President Everett of the Big consolidated declares that his com pany has about all the men required and that the service now maintained on the various lines of the system Is equal to that which was in force prior to the strike Mr Everett states that he Is receiving appliea tions from some of the strikers for rein statement and that a number of union men have already been put to work He was asked if he would receive a commit tee of the strikers should one call upor company has always re plied the Big Consolidated president It 7 is willing to receive a committee of its employes but the strikers are no longer in the employ of the The strike leaders on the other hand Insist that not a single desertion has occurred and that their ranks remain unbroken There is no Indication so far of any cheek in the boycott movement although the officials of the Bls Consolidated say there was a marked increase in the number uf passengers carried downtown on their east end lines' this morning As a matter of fact however the cars aside from tjtose on the Euclid and Cedar avenues lines con tinue to to $5000 and imprisonment of from six months to one year and each day that the con spiracy continues constitutes a separate of fense This law was passed at the last ses sion of the legislature but the The first four nominees are the present incumbents and were named by acclamation Judge Sherwin was nominated on the fourth ballot The convention met in the new Auditor ium at 11 a Chairman Chas Pickett of Waterloo addressed the con vention The hall was packed with some 2500 dele gates and visitors and Chairman address was generously applauded particu larly his references to the Dawson were then nominated by acclamation the resolutions were read and adopted with a hurrah and the convention adjourned sine die Public library officials have experienced a good deal of chagrin lately at finding a considerable number of valuable books bad ly mutilated and cut The trouble has been noticed mostly among the handsome art works and bound magazine tiles in the ref erence room Not long ago it was discov ered that many of the finest art books had been cut by some person who was evidently desirous of obtaining the illustrations Li brarian Utley had the books examined by Assistant Director Braaish of the Museum of Art and by Joseph Gies and' both of these artists came Independently to the con clusion that the Illustrations had been stol en by some one who desired to use them for modeling or carving ormerly the cases In the reference room were left un locked and all persons were allowed access to them Now however the cases are kept locked and only persons showing library
