Further announcement of this program will appear later. The general athletic supplies were issued last week, much of it consisting of footballs and indoor baseballs. We feel that it is better for the youngsters to use up his surplus energy litefally kicking a football than to go into his room and figuratively kicking his teacher. Basket ball is also in season now and our first game will be played tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock, when our "'one time" grammar pupils come over to the grammar school again for additional information, namely, how to play basketball, because both our boys and girls expect to wallop the high school youngsters. We are also getting in trim for some of our other inter-school athletics.

Wc have finally secured a man to ne nas ms boys out on the playground at recess, throwing and kicking the "pigskin," he has evidently taken part in some football games. There seems to be a mistaken idea on the part of some of the parents concerning the time that school is dismissed. We have mentioned this in a previous set of notes but call your attention to it again. In the upper grades, school is not out until 4 o'clock, because it sometimes happens that the teacher wants to give special help to the pupil or to a group or even to an entire diss. If such is the case school for those concerned will continue until 4 o'clock.

However, if a youngster is up to standard in his studies, deportment and attendance, he will be dismissed at 3:20 in order to enable the teacher to specialize on youngsters mentioned in the former class. GRAMMAR SCHOOL NOTES There have been great many comments, in fact, criticisms, concerning the taxes in District 40 for the school year of 1920 and 1921, but perhaps when the following figures are considered they will realize the difficult proposition which confronted our efficient board of at the time our levy was made. Last year, at the close of the first month of school, we had a total enrollment og 766. Our average daily attendance for last year for the best six months was 797, or a total increase over the previous year of 266. Our enrollment at the close of the first month of school this year was 1022, or 256 more than at the close of the first month last year.

These pupils are classified as follows: 5S in the eighth grade, 119 in the seventh grade, S5 in the sixth grade, 112 in the fifth grade. S9 in the fourth grade, 101 in the third, 121 in the second, -34 in the special first or high first, 107 in our first grade, 34 in our sub-primary, C5 in our Mexican first and 35 in our Mexican second and third, 33 in our Russian or in the Davis school, and 28 in our second and third grade Russian room in the town school, making a total of 1022 pupils. No teacher on the ground has less than 25 pupils and this light enrollment is found only in the first grade. The other grades run from 31 to 43, with a general average of 37 to each teacher. No one appreciates the fact that taxes are high any more than the members of the board of trustees and the superintendent and we hope, yes, firmly believe, that we are not alone in feeling that the youngsters are worth every cent of it.

First Ave. Glendale Divoree Gets $62,000 Yearly When Will Building Costs Be Lower? There are three factors necessary to bring about a reduction in building costs NOW THAT COOL WEATHER IS HERE MEAT IS THE MAIN ITEM OF FOOD.

We Specialize in Quality Meats Only SAMPLE MORE 1. A reduction in demand for buildings. 2. A reduction in wages of labor. 3.

A reduction in prices of building material This country is short nearly three and one-half billion dollars' worth of normal building construction. Until this shortage is made up there will surely be a continual demand for buildings. It does not seem probable that the laboring man will be- content to accept any reduction in the size of his pay envelope. It has been that about 90 per cent of the cost of an average frame house goes back to the laborer who cut the timber, prepared the raw material for the market, transported it over the railroads and finally built it into the structure. There are other fundamental catises for the high prices of commodities in general.

Considering the above, factors, does it seem reasonable tp expect any- substantial reduction in building costs Glendale Phone 2 Sure, these mornings are chilly snd a stove to read by at night is indeed a comfort.
