AI BECKWITH, MORTON. H. Mortt-u will continue" the Book and Stationery business nt the old stand 532 Main Louisville, Ky. What to him, I ask you, are now the policy or the politics of the country? What to him now, are the nice points upon which turn iho honor ofthe State? What to him now is the extension of empire the rise or fl lof the dethronement, or the establishment of kingB? His work is done, and. well done.

As it is with him so shall ii shortly be with every one of us! then "So live, lhat when thy su mmnus comes to Join To the pnle realms of shade, where each ahull take Ilisclmniberin iho aUentBlla of death Tlmn thequari; sUveat night, Scourged to hiadungjon; bu sustained and aooth'd By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave LikonewhowrnpatuedrapTry of hiao couch About him, mid lies down to pleasant dreama." One word more. The distinguished. subject ofourprcsent attention, has fallen aniartyrto his country. The cause of his sickness and of his death, originated in his last great efforts iu securing the passage through Congress, of certain measures known as the Compromise. In more cases thau one may he receive the heavenly welcome Welldone good and faithful servant." His love of country his enthusiaaaiin any cause in which her interests were involved his great and singular powers his wonderful and controlling influence over even great mnds marked him as the man of the age, and adapted him in a peculiar manner, to act and to lead in grave measures of government.

And, if in the future, any one section of this great Republic should be arrayed in hostility against another; and any cruel hand shall be uplifted to sever the bonds which unite us together as a common people the genius of liberty shall come down in anguish and iu tears, and throwing herself prostrate before his tomb, implore the Mighty Ituler of Nations for the preservation of our institutions, and the protection of our I ibe.ty and our Union to raise up from his ashes another Clay. Reported expressly far (lie Liwisaille Courier, FUNERAL ORATION DELIVERED AT ASHLAND, Saturday, July 10, 1852. BY HEV. E. F.

BKBKLJCr, Of the Protestant Episcopal Church, My FniENDs: A Nation's griefs are bursting forth, at the fali of one of her noblest sons. A mighty man in wisdom, in intellect, i i truth, lie in our presence tc-day, insensible, inanimate, and cold. The heart which once beat with a pnre and lofty patriotism, shall beat no more. The renowned statesman, who was learned in the laws of diplomacy and government, will never again give his counsel in affairs of state, an i the voice, which was ever raised in behalf of truth and liberty, is silenced forever. Indulge me in a remark or two whilst I speak of him; and in consideration of the personal comfort of this immense assembly, my words shall be few.

This is neither a properplace nor a fit occasion to dwell.on the peculiar and striking incidents of his public life, and I mean to say a few words ouly of his character as viewed in connection with religion. We have not come here to weave a garland of praise for the brow of the fallen statesman, or to throw the incense of aducaiion upon the urn which encloses his ashes, but we have come here pay the last oince-i of respect and affection to neighbor and a friend, and to drhw from the visitation which has stricken down one of the mightiest of our mighty men, such lessons as are calculated to teach us "what shadows we and what shadows we pursue." Our venerated friend has been before the public eye for half a century and for nearly the whole of that period iu iho occupancy of high public places. He has done the State great service. He combined in his character such elements as could make him no other man than he was, except that he might have been as great ft soldier us lie was a statesman and orator. But the crowning excellence of all hs viitueswas this: he was christian.

As he was eminently open, candid, and in his long public career, so he was deeply aincero adoption as the rule of Lis of principles of our Holy Religion. It is reported hero that the cholera has again made its appearance in the Southern and Western States, and is spreading and becoming more fatal as the Beason advances. I have been Informed by some of the most eminent pUyiicians of thiB city that the aromatic Schiedam SrJinapps is the very best article that can be used as a preventative to this most alarming and fatal disease, and 1 belbiv 3 myself that the judicious use of it will be more beneficial as a precautionary measure than any other known medicine.

Dear Sir: It gives great satisfaction to add my testimony in favor of "Dr. Guysoil's Extract of Yellow Pock and Sarsaparillfi" to thdt of the numerous and highly respectable persons who have been benefitted by the medicine. My wife has been suffering for the apace ol nearly five years with Scrofula and Cancer, which, I think found its origin in the derangements of the system peculiar to her tex; while, In the meantime, she was under the care oi the most eminent pysicians in this section ol country, without deriving any material a.d from their proscriptions. Upon tjie Recommendation of Dr. Cocker, one of our physicians, who had seen the medicirc used with hojppy effect I obtain bd of your agent? here, Messrs.

Rice and McFarland, one t.ottle of Dr. Guysott's Extract of Yellow Dock and Sar-sapariila, and as my wife found re ief from thai bottle, I bought some six bottles, which she has taken with the most astonishing benefit; for I am pjeassd to say it has entirely cured her, for she has entirely recovered from her illness, and the Scrofula and are cured sound and well. Accept my gratitude. Respectfully, MICHAEL GQfiDMAN. Hakdinsbukg, March 20,1851.

he riid it not mechanically, and as a matter of because he an old man he did it ami upon conviction, because he felt huuseif to be a sinner, and because he felt the need of a Savior. And when he came to make vUe inquiry, what shall I do? audit waitold hini what he ought to do, he did it gladly, he made iinste to fulfil the purposes ofhia h-art. And his yreat miiid being brought to the investigation of ho pure and simple coctrines of ihe Cross, new beauties in a new world roke in upon him, nl'the exis.ence of which to their full extent, ho had not dreamed before; and I know thut in times when he under the hand of disease of great bodily infirmity here home, he Hung to Uue doctrines by a lively faith, e.s the highest consolations of his soul. Although hj had his church preferences, yet the power and influence of the leaching of r-ghily understood, gave rise to sympathies iu hU nature which extended to all christian Surrounded as he was by the allurements and fascinations of a high public place, nevertheless he strove to walk in the pure and perfect way; and by a steady maintenance ot the principles which bound him to religion and to God like the eagle with Ins eye fixed unon the sun, his course was onward and upward And these principles which our illustrious friend found so comforting and consoling in life, did not forsake him, when he had nothing else on earth to cling to. In refer, nee to some of his last hours a lady connected with him by family, who recently spent several days at his bed-side, writes: "He is longing to be gone and said some thing of this kind to me, which caused me to ask him, "if he did not feel perfectly willing to wait until the Almighty called him." He replied, my dear child, do not misunderstand me 1 supplicate him continually for patience to do so.

I am ready to go no not ready but willing. We are none of us ready. We cannot trust in our ort ii merits, but must look to Him entirely." The writer adds: "He is the most gentle, and ajftclionaltt sick person 1 almost ever saw thanks you for every thing and is as little trouble as he can possibly be." And this is the power of religiou upon a vigorous and discriminating tdnd a mind fully capably of meeting all the great emergencies which have ever arisen in its collisions with other gieat minds at the Bar, in the Senate, and upon the forum. And oh! the recollection to mourning friends, and to a mourrjirg country, is of the most condoling interest, that as in his life, by his genius and wisdom, he threw light, and peace, and blessings upon his country so in his death the Glori-uiis Giver of grace and wisdom, threw light, and peace, and blessings upon him; borne upward iis he was, by aspirations to heaven of a million hearts But his earthly career is run Full of age and full of honors, he goes down to earth, to ashes, and to dust.
