"PETE" CALHOUN ASHEVILLE Peter Roderick "Pete" Calhoun of 37 Arborvale Rd. died Thursday, May 24, 2012. A life long resident of Asheville he was a son of Willie and Annie L.

Mcintosh Calhoun. Pete was a 1962 graduate of Stephens-Lee High School and retired from the Asheville City School System after 30 years of employment Surviving are his sons, Darrell Garrison of Asheville, Peter Calhoun, Jr. of Greenville, SC, Michael (Jamica) and Frederick Lyles of Asheville; daughter, Eartha "Kitty" Lyles of Asheville; brother, W. Fleetwood Calhoun of Asheville; sisters, Julia A. Calhoun, Brenda Mapp (Wallace) and Margaretta Linney of Asheville and Joyce Littlejohn of Gaff-ney, SC; and Laura Bunn of Asheville, 10 grandchildren, three great- daughter, Mary Ellen "Cookie" Grindstaff and her husband, Harold, of Marion; one son, Paul Dean Arrington and his wife, Leona, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Rod Arrington of Wash-ingtonville, New York and Mark Lavender of Apex, North Carolina; eleven great grandchildren; two Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.

on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend John H. Swanger, HI officiating. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Elizabeth Freshour Trent and was also preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1991; a grandson, Michael D. Arrington; four sisters, Edna Conner, Christine Frisbee, and Ruth and Jean Trent; and four brothers, Albert, Henry, John, and Jimmy Trent Marie was a former employee of Clinch-field Manufacturing in Marion, and later worked in Waynesville at Young's Shoe Store as a manager and John Graham's Department Store.

She was a member of Clinchfield Baptist Church in Marion and Barberville Baptist Church. Wilds was bom in Madison County and was a son of the late Lewis Auburn and Geneva McDevitt Wilds. He was a Navy veteran of WW II and had been a member of Haywood Street United Methodist Church for 53 years. He was a retired truck driver with ABF Transport. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Viola Wills Wilds; two sons, Albert Wilds, Jr. and wife, Mary, and Timothy Wilds and wife, Jenny, grandchildren, Albert Wilds William Wilds, Evangeline Wilds, and Amelia Wilds.

Born in Chatham County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Henry Matthew and Edith Kate Long Carpenter. She was formerly a Certified Nursing Assistant with Care Partners Hospice and was active in interpretation for the deaf and blind in her community.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Hammond and her brother, Edward Brewer; also step siblings, Nick, Mack, Lois and Qemmie. Survivors include son, Michael Hammond of Asheville; daughter, Me-linda H. Rhew and her husband, Tim, of Asheville; grandsons, Matthew W. and Garrett T. Rhew both of Asheville; brother, JAMES FULLER SAMS CANDLER James Fuller Sams, 94, of Candler, died Sunday, May 27,2012.

A native of Yancy he was a son of the late Henry and Mabel Horton Sams. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Belle Sams, and by eight brothers and sisters. Mr. Sams was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII.

He was a business owner in Sylva, NC for numerous years. He was a Mason, and a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Mr. Sams is survived by a daughter, Joan Marie Harmon of Tulsa, OK; a son, Robert Fuller Sams of Waynesville; 3 grandchildren; 3 greatgrandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a brother, Mack D. Sams.

She was a native of Macon County and was the daughter of the late James Carr Bryson and Sarah Frances Rick-man Bryson.

She was married to Raymond Harvey Womack who passed away in 2003. She was also predeceased by a sister, Ruth Bryson Potts. She was a faithful member of Cowee Baptist Church where she taught an adult women's class, served as church clerk and historian, was active in the Women's Missionary Union, taught Vacation Bible School and youth discipleship training, and was a messenger to the Macon Baptist Association. During her husband's military service, she taught Sunday School at Bayvale Baptist Church in Augusta, GA, and at Sylvan Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA She was previously employed at the Macon County Courthouse as a switchboard operator. Early in life, she was a telephone operator for Western Carolina Telephone Company and also worked for Crisp's Studios and Camera Shop.

She loved quilting, researching family and church history, and gardening. She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn W. White and husband Ken of Mebane, NC, Kathy W. Peek and husband Shonn of Asheville, NC, two sons James H. Womack and SAMUEL MCCARSON ASHEVILLE Samuel McCarson, 72, of Asheville, NC, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Mission Memorial Hospital.

A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary McCarson. Mr. McCarson is predeceased by 6 brothers, Holmes, Aaron, Nathan, Daniel, Joseph, andjacky McCarson; and sister, Mildred Adams. Surviving Mr. McCarson is a brother, Paul McCarson of Michigan; sisters, Edna Griffith of Asheville, and Sarah McCarson of St Petersburg, FL; 11 nephews; 2 nieces; 6 great-nephews; and 1 great-niece.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Penland Family Funeral Home Chapel in Swan-nanoawith the Rev. Billy R. Balcom officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Sky View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services.

NANCY PLYBON GUTHRIE MARION, Mrs. Nancy Plybon Guthrie, age 71, of Marion, NC, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012 at her residence with her loving family by her side. Nancy was born in York County, SC on June 5, 1940 to the late Charles Thomas Plybon, Jr. and Kathryne Hanks Plybon.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion. Mrs. Guthrie was a teacher at McDowell High School and principal of East McDowell Junior High School before retiring in 2006. In retirement, she was an educational coach for early colleges; Buncombe County and Rutherford County Early Colleges and Avery County Modified High School. Not only was she a teacher, mentor and friend, Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who was loved by all who knew her.

Nancy had the passion and drive of a leader, but the heart of a servant, and was blessed to be a positive force and impact on so many lives in her short time in this world. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 50 years, Norman C. Guthrie, one daughter, Kally Guthrie Dotson and her husband, Greg of Rutherfordton, NC; two sons, Norman Scott Guthrie and his wife, Susan of Hunters-ville, NC; and Neal dements Guthrie and his wife, Jennifer of Simpsonville, SC; one sister, Mary Kathryne "Micky" Howe and beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, and kind words, Ora found greatjoy in working in her garden and flowers, attending church and gospel singings, cooking, quilting, homemaking, being part of the Golden Age Singers ministry, and taking great pleasure in the blessings of simple everyday life with her beloved family and many friends. One of Ora's most favorite memories was her visit to the Holy Land. Left to honor and cherish her memory are her devoted children; son, RJ.

Thompson and wife, Janey of Bakersville; and her daughter, Billie Jean Swink of Asheville. Ora was also proud of her three grandchildren and six great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews and their families. In accordance with Ora's wishes, a private family service led by Rev. Larry Greene, celebrating her love of God, family, and friends and her life of faith and kindness will be held on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Interment will follow in the her husband, Joe of York, SC; three grandchildren, Madison, Morgan and Tyler.

Surviving nieces and nephews include Dr. Joseph A. Howe, wife Laura and their children Will and Kate; and Melissa Howe and her children, Justin and Jennifer Snipes. She was preceded in death by nephew Michael T. Howe.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Marion with Rev. Kent Smith officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday immediately following the service. Those desiring to make a memorial contribution in Mrs.

Born on May 24, 1920 in Mitchell County, NC; Ora was the daughter of the late Jeter and Bertie Young Stamey.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, five brothers; and husbands, Ross Thompson and Charles Donnahoo. Ora was a sweet and beloved Wife, Mother, Great Grandmother, and Sister. She was a dear and treasured friend to all who were blessed by spending time with her. Ora was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine, where in earlier years she enjoyed participating in various ministries. She had been employed at both Robbins Mill and Henredon Furniture, Inc.
