Chicago Board Directors Tae Steps to Halt Speculation. CIIICACO. June Ronrd of trade directors fixed a mux lin ii it rice for corn bite today, ns was done with wheal several weeks ago. The price fixed was on all contrnctH of corn for future delivery. A special meeting of the directors was culled Immediately nfter trading closed this afternoon.

Later the foUckvlug resolution wns given out: "Itesolvcd. that on nnd nfter Wednesday, June 0. 1017, until further notice, members of this board in milking contracts for the pirrchust or snle, by grade alone, of corn to be delivered in store either for Immediate or for future delivery not, in entering Into such contracts, exceed the price of per bushel. Re it further "Itesolvcd, that, any member trading iu violation of the foregoing shall be deemed to have committed grave offense against the good name of the nssoclntion." Joseph P. Griffin, of the board of trade, said after the meeting: "Jn order that this action of the directors In fixing a maximum price for all corn contracts may not be misinterpreted.

I would have understood that the step was taken for purely preventive reasons. While governments and consumers are liberal buyers of corn for present and future delivery, there is no present indication that this buying bus reached proportions Mutt might result In unduly enhancing values. "It is the policy of the administration at Washington to prevent the price of foodstuffs reaching nn ahnormally high level nnd the action of our directory today Is simply In Hiipport of the policy of President: Wilson nnd his advisers." According to grain brokers there is little corn iu Chicago. Since last Thursday the price of the comipodlty has advanced 12 to 15 (rents, and the tendency to further advance is believed to have prompted the board of trade officials to fix a maximum price.
