you have no home there is no place like the 98 and 100 Woodward ave eleverly worded advertisement will reach the mind and hold it fast" Mr Kenyon the popular proprie tor of the millinery department of Bazaar furnishes the article of the Adver tising Series published to day Mr Kenyon has evidently arrived at the correct con clusion that the newspaper provides adver tisers with the best means of addressing the public of speaking to them cordially of the ways devised for interesting them in goods and store People know that it costs money thus to talk to them and you com pliment them when you pay money for newspaper space in which to address them i That is one reason why they patronize ad vertisers and pass by others The favor of the average person of to day is not given unasked or cheaply The day is past when it was possible to carry on a successful business without ad vertising Close competition and live: American business methods have made it necessary for merchants to tell the public of their goods and present sufficient rea sons for asking their patronage It is a fact that in almost every line of trade there are more dealers and larger stocks of goods than are actually necessary to supply the demand and the result of this condition of affairs is to make it necessary for met i chants to reach out for trade they cannot sit quietly and wait for customers to come to them This in my opinion is why it is necessary to advertise Different business conditions require different methods of advertising The manu facturer advertises to create a demand for his wares which demand is supplied by the retailer The retailer advertises to induce buyers to come to him to have their wants supplied The former looks for indirect or future results the latter for direct or im mediate results I have noticed that some contributions to the series of articles on New speak of advertising as an I beg to differ Advertis ing from its very nature cannot be exact No man ever knew or ever will know the exact amount of good received from anyone advertisement I may adver tise to morrow a certain quantity of any article at a given price and may dispose of the entire quantity in aday or I may follow a similar course on another day with another article aad sell none Can I attribute these different results entirely and alone to the adv Not at all The adv was just as good in one case as in the other but from a combination of circumstan ces peculiar to each case the results were almost diametrically opposite The mission of the advertisement isJ to announce increase assist the best adver Using ever done will not save a business which is mismanaged in other ways News papers in my judgment are the best me dium for the reason that all intelligent people of any community spend more or less of their time reading them People give more of their time and attention to newspapers than any other medium through which advertising is done and as the abso lute value of any advertisement depends entirely upon the amount of attention it attracts it is easy to see that while there may be other methods more or less valuable the newspaper affords the quickest and best way of reaching the greatest number of people and is therefore to be preferred be fore all others or 3 Days To Day riday Saturday Any Black or Dark Another Unexplained ire ire was discovered in the second hand furni ture
