SUNDAY MORNING, JUNE 13,1993 THE GALVESTON DAILY NEWS 11-A Nation report BRIEFS Haircut stunt not amusing SAN FRANCISCO (AP) A disc jockey was sentenced to three years probation, $500 in fines and 100 hours of community service for stalling traffic on a bridge while he got a haircut. "If you do this again, you'll be doing your next broadcast from the" county jail," Municipal Judge Charlotte Walter Woolard said after sentencing KSOL disc jockey M. Erich Muller on Friday. Muller, who pleaded no contest plea to charges of creating a public nuisance, told the judge, "I have a lot to offer to make up for what I did." Muller, known on the air as "Mancow," and his sidekick, Jesus "Chuy" Gomez, tied up morning traffic on May 26 by parking their van across several westbound lanes of the Bay Bridge while Gomez got a haircut. The cut took only a few minutes but the traffic jam lasted more than an hour.

Some drivers complained that they missed flights, important meetings and appointments. One filed a $4 million lawsuit. The stunt was a take-off on President Clinton's expensive haircut aboard Air Force One that delayed travelers at Los Angeles International Airport for an hour last month. Frozen embryo battle is over KNOXVILLE, Term. (AP) Along battle over the custody of seven frozen fertilized human embryos has ended with a gynecologist giving them to the man who won a court order blocking his ex- wife from bringing them to term.

The embryos were fertilized in 1988 by Junior Lewis Davis and his former wife, Mary Sue Davis Stowe. Dr. I. Ray King said he gave the embryos to Davis late last week, according to The Knoxville News-Sentinel. But Davis' lawyer, Charles Clifford, declined Friday to confirm that his client had the embryos.

He said Davis would release a statement Monday. Hospital hit PHILADELPHIA (AP) A jury ordered the nation's oldest hospital to pay $20 mil lion to an llyear-old boy born with brain damage after his mother spent more than eight hours there in premature labor without getting a doctor's attention. The Common Pleas Court jury ruled Friday that Pennsylvania Hospital of Philadelphia was negligent when it left Gayle Chiccino unattended on Sept. 20,1981 before she gave birth to her son, Jonathan. The hospital will appeal, spokeswoman Laura Feragen said Friday.

Gun accident LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) Mick Mars, lead guitarist for the rock group Motley Crue, accidentally wounded a friend while target shooting in a desert north of Los Angeles. Mars, 42, was not charged in Friday's shooting of Rebecca Mettling, 24. Ms. Mottling was treated at hospital for a minor wound to the side of her abdomen and released.

Mars told deputies Ms. Mettling was standing behind him and was struck by a bullet that apparently ricocheted off a rock, said Los Angeles County sheriffs Deputy John O'Neal. 2 workers die NORTH CHICAGO, HI. (AP) Leaking carbon monoxide fumes at a metal smelting plant killed two workers and injured eight others Saturday, authorities said.
