clean and healthy condition he should prescribe the Kind of tooth powder mouth wash and troth brush tor each individual case More attention should be given to the teeth asrzaasof digestion the kind of food hich wUI ncurish the teeth and give them the proper exerci to induce healthy nutrition special attention should be given to eaviy and cansistf nt methods of filling and treat tag the teeth to a menace to the public health: and Whereas Previoua legislative enactment a al ready control the presence uf unt aceinated per sists tn public asseirbltea as a preventive of smallpox and quarantine regulations are in force ta control the spread of infectious diseases Resolved That It is the sense cf th Michigan Dental Association that there hrid be some legislative enactment against this evil by Die Any Minnie Grand Rapids Mich June 11 (Special) A horrible accident occurred this afternoon in th new smoke stack which Is being built for the street railway company The stack was practically completed several days ago except the connections below with the furnaces and for the last few days visitors have been taken to th top ot the til feet structure Yesterday afternoon the work of tearing down the inside scaffold ing was commenced and this noon all but abobt seventy feet was down To get up inside the chimney a little car drawn tx a single pulley was used and this was connected with a stationary engine a little distance from the base of the stack About 2 this afternoon the man In charge of the car came down to file a saw and soon afterward the two work men left went up again After a few mo ments they wanted to come down but pulled the wrong signal on the bell rope and the engineer sent them higher The top of the car struck the cross beam and the whole thing fell crashing seventy feet to the ground Both men were so badly injured that ttrey were hardly a Uve when rescued from the debris and John Wood died in the ambu lance on the way to the hospital Ills back arms ami lgs were broken His companion Benjamin McColl was In jured in almost the same way but reach ed the hospital alive The physicians give no hope of hfs recovery Both men were laborers about years old and difficulty between this corporation and the city which according to of its members as well as fri the opinion of several of the older men' cancnly be settled In a court of Justice al though the hope of both parties that extreme measures will not have to be re sorted to The city some time ago ordered the street car company to repair their track and pave between the rails on Cass avenue from Worthington avenue to the Grand Trunk railway which thy have steadily refused to do although the street committee of fered to give Ahem the benefit of a uniform rate with the contractor who is to do the work on the same thoroughfare A meeting was held between the president of the Traction Company and the street committee but up to this time ho com promise has been arranged Martin Crock er as attorney for company that the cltj renew its franchise betveen Macomb street nd the city limits prom ising that tn cas that request is granted the company will lose no time in com plying with the i equest of the city The street committee of which Louis Guiette Is chairman is opposed to granting any thing of the kind being of the opinion that if th intentions of the corporation are right they would not ask for a compromise The ML Clemen A Lakeside Tractton Co declare that the terms of their franchise will not wrrrant th expenditure of any more money and It is not their intention of using any more until the terms of the one which th company now possesses 5 ratified according to the present needs cn the corporation This morning Ellsworth Conklin was brought to this city from Detroit charged with stealing a 4watch from his mother who Is a resident ot this city Conklin who was arrested last night at first refused to tell where his horn is but aftr being locked up a few hours he raid that his Lome la in Mt Clemens A warrant was sworn out against him this morning by his mother and after being arraigned be fore Judge Hbrton he was sentenced to ninety days in the county jail Conklin is an old offender though but 16 years bM having been frequently in trouble of this kind before The Jury Jn ear of Dr Gardiner failed to agree after being in the Jury room five hours It is Court and then hid his face in his hands and sobbed According to the ver dict was not insane when he shot his ife three times at the home in Tompkins of an elderly man Eber Simons with whom Mrs Deering was living as the de fendant in his defense endeavored to make the Jury believe The trial of Charles Mallett an ex con vict for feloniously assaulting Mrs Mary Dingee was taken up when court Mich June The first thing done at this morning's session of the Great Maccabee camp was the Increasing of the executive committee from three members to five This carried Then came the sick and accident branch of the business It was shown that this branch had never been slf pustaining and was always a source of expense to the order It was de cided to abolih this of Maccabee Then came the Boughton row lie made an appeal to the great camp on the action of the executive committee in de posing him when he did not furnish the re quired txinds Houseman told Mr Boughton's side of the members admitted of 16591 The net increase of endowment member ship for the term ending December 31 1895 was 6227 and in social membership 137 a total net Increase of 63M or 1 1 2 per cent larger increase than that for the fiscal year ending June 30 1894 The total number of deaths during the term was 14s of which took place in the last half of 1894 and 308 during the year 18TK being an average EXCELLUNT At the meeting the committee on laws made a report which was hot acted upon being merely read with recommenda tions The report of the great finance keeper Susie Graves was elaborate and showed the condition of the finances to be excellent as will be seen by the following statement: Total balance on hand 1 lat i 43 Total amount received from all sources from January £836 to June 1 1836 61107 86 Total amount paid out as vouchers $60836 2) Total balance on hand June 1 ls96 30099 69 $30335 89 $30935 89 The finance report contained recommendations that the great hive offi cers should receive two cents per mile each way and $3 a day also that the standing committees should recommend $2 per day to each member and the two cents a mile each way A good portion of the morning's session was devoted to working on the amendments to the laws The report of Dr Emma Cook great medical examin er Of the was terse and to the point It showed that there were 8915 ap plications from June 30 1894 to December 31 1895 received at the great medical office and of these 79M were approved and 913 rejected The M's afternoon session was partially taken up by continuing the work of amending the law's of the order Miss Emma Bower the great record keeper made a motion that an important amend ment be made to the effect that hereafter only endowment members be entitled to have representation before either social or endowments members could hold seat in the Great Hive The meeting then pro ceeded to elect th great lady commander i Mrs rances Burns of St Louis gre lieutenant commander being nominated also Mrs Rachael A Bailey of Hasttm and the mother of the order Mrs A Ward of Muskegon Th latter withdrew her name biwever and left the other two candidates The first ballot resulted in th paper that the police had prevented a certain Dr Hauber of this city from displaying the German flag Chief Of Police Sterling and Mayor Smith both deny the report and an investigation shows that some citizens living near Hau place did object unless he also raised the American flair lie did so and that's all there was to it Whitehall was again visited by burglars this morning the stores of Thomas Widoe clothing Lanterberg boots and shoes being entered and also the barn of Williams from which a hors and buggy were taken The total property loss Is $675 Sheriff Smith is wiring rignt and left and
