VAST THRONG ATTENDS M' XUAL'S proud escutcheon, ra diant from victories over its sternest rivals. stM stands unblemished. High School. like other teams that have fae.ed the Crimson warriors, was forced to pay its tribute to a remarkable eleven by the score of 7 to 0. The Purple ath- 1itps nlthnuirh outclassed by their killed opponents, fought valiantly throughout the long struggle in the vain hope.

that the tide might turn. Undaunted by tradition. Manual played football as it has seldom been played on local gridirons. It was a mighty eleven that met High School yesterday, and the hopes of Purple adherents soon were bedimmed. High School had recokned without its host, for the relentless Crimson band swept all before it.

The vicious onslaughts of the Manual men would not be denied. Through the bending, crumbling line of Purple forwards, around the baffled, disconcerted ends, over the crushed defenders the Crimson eleven tore its savage way. The most ardent supporter of the vanquished team realized at the close of battle that Manual's superiority wad not fully retlect-ed in the score. Twice, at the end of each half, the march of the victors was stayed by time within the shadow of the goal. Only High School's battle spirit could have so well withstood the terrific strain at other times.

Manual excelled In every branch of foot ball shown. Backs, ends and even the Crimson line outplayed the vaunted High School forwards. Withal a team-work that moved cog and cog left naught to be desired in football Ideality. Piloted in faultless style, there could be but one outcome. The strength, speed and skill of the Manual men.

working in unison, hurled aside the High School craft and swept away the bitterest opposition. Purple Buttles Gamely. How savagely the Purple players battled, how gamely they struggled and how desperately their bruised mid battered backs strove to penetrate the Crimsuii defense fn their frenzied i-fforts to reach the coveted goal, the long series of mi-successful charges plainly snows. High School, invading the rival defenses, found JIunual amply prepared. Opposed to a line that stood lirm as trom end to end, the Purple charges that had smashed other forwards and cast dismay Into the ranks or other teams wasted like the washing of surf on a rocky shore Onlv once in the lonir did long struggle did the tide of battle favor the Purple warrior: Karly in the final quarter the High School representatives carried the ball down the lield and placed it far in Manual's territory.

That was the Purple's only offensive triumph, for. Jlke an awakened band of tigers, the Crimson aggregation came back and tore the High School team asunder. Duffy's men made a determined stand in midtield, but. crushed and seeling from the shock of cruel impact, their defense was swept away, and when time was called Manual was surging toward the Purple goal for vast gains. Lariie Crowd Present.

From the eastern section of the city they came, from the western, from the northern and from the southern. The magnet which attracted 10.000 local football enthusiasts was this annual struggle. Lomk before time for the contest to be-Kin the cohorts began to tile into the park, and when the whistle blew for the Initial kick-off tittlu standing room was left around the white-lined gridiron. The great multitude was a joyous one. Before the game there was enthusiasm a-plenty.

From the ehic damsel in the center box to the tousled urchin who had slipped over the fence, all were in the best of spirits, all shouted to friends, all were exultant. The scene was an inspiring one. The gridiron was surrounded by a mass of color, blending tn and out purple, gold crimson ami wnue lik ing rainbow.
