WEDNESDAY JIOI Apple Treks in ull Tne Cobourg CanadaStar slates in proof of the extraordinary mildness of the season that within a mile or two of Cobourg on the farm of a Mr John Ludgatemay be seen at the present moment apple trees1 in full blossom some of them actually putting forth a sec ond crop of fruit the size nearly of a small walnut I We understand that apple trees in full blossom can be seen in this county A friend stated to us a day or two since that he had seen several trees within a week past in foil bloom 5 EDWARD' or Treasurer DANIEL CAMPAU or Clerk THOMAS WATSON or irst Judge SMITH LEE or second Judge CYRUS HOWARD Organization Accessary to success The necessity ui a thorough oigamzation prepar atory to the death struggle which whiggery will make for success in this state at the next election is apparent to every man who takes an active inter est tn political matters This organization must be effected if the Democrats intend to succeed The city the county and the state are all democratic by large major ties yet in each it would be an easy matter io the whigs to beat us unless the democ racy present on efficient organization The main effort of this organization should be devoted to get ting every voter to the polls whether it rain or shine on the election day i A party in the majority is always in danger from the fact that many of its members feeling that there is enough without them absent themselves from the polls while with the minority each man feels the necessity of every vote being cast are al present Were we satisfied that every voter in the state would deposit his ballot at the next elec tion we would rest as satisfied as if the battle was already fought and won The federal party as wo have before frequentlyaid have all to gain and nothing to lose in the cam paign now opening upon us If defeated they are as well off as they are now and if successful they can elect a United States Senator and with two out of three members of Congress they can in the vent of the next election for President devolving on Congress cast the vote of this state for Daniel Webster Willie Mangum John Davis or any of the other federal candidates for the Presidency Besides this they can patch up the banking sys tem grant new charters for banks to fleece the peo they can protect the in their swindling operations by passing as they did in 1841 an act giving banksan unlimited suspension of specie payments i By organization these evils can be avoided A Democratic delegation in Congress will secure the vote of Michigan in the event of there being no election tiy the people for a democratic President A democratic Legislature will elect a democratic United States Senator in place of Judge Wood bridge and with a democratic Legislature the peo ple have an assurance that no bank charters will be suffered to pass or to be extended It is arrant folly and hypocrisy for men to prate democracy the year round and then to absent themselves from the polls bn the day of election One working democrat on that day is worth a thou sand who are absent from their duty He who goes to the polls and urges and takes his neighbor with him gives an evidence of sincerity worth more than all the professions of all the stay atbome democrats in the state It has become a time honored maxim that price of liberty is eternal and its trutq has never been doubted This vigilance so neces sary in political warfare can be exercised by pre paring for the day of by a thorough organ ization which will secure the attendance of every democrat at the polls This done the victory is democracy is again triumphant This neg lected federalism is again in the banking interest is again in the ascendant and it will take years and years of democratic rule to recover from the misrule of federalism to wipe out their infamous laws enacted for the purpose of giving the few ad vantages not possessed by the many Let then the democracy avert these evils by pre paring for the contest Let every thing be prepa red before the day of strife comes und let every democrat in the slate deposit his ballot by 12 o'clock on the day of the election and whiggery will re cdive such a defeat as they never sustained in Mich igan before The Oakland County iBank At the time of writing (Tuesday afternoon) it is understood that Mr Truesdail has assigned to the Hon A Porter an amount of property sufficient to secure the ultimate redemption of the notes of the Oakland County Bank now in circulation The meeting on Saturday night gave evidence that the patience of the note holders was nearly ex hausted and it gives us much pleasure to say that ustict has at length been wrung (by the force of public indignation) from Mr Truesdail To the gentlemen composing the committee of citizens appointed at a former meeting much cred it is due They have done alt nay more than was expected of them and to their exertions and to the jears of the owner of the Oakland concern do the i holders of its notes owe the security which they have received Good Safe Rule The Augusta (Me) Age publishes the following which will do for all parts of the Union: only safe rule of action for a political party is strictly to adhere to regular nominations The man a ho bolts from a nomination because the nominee is personally objectionable to him sets an example which if followed will inevitably destroy all party organization By thus bolting the election of a personal enemy may be defeatc I but in the defeat of that personal enemy the party may also be de feated and some great and important measure for the benefit of the country thereby lost Besides the man who defeats an election by bolting to day may be himself defeated by the bolting of some other man to morrow He who would claim for himself or his friend the benefit of party organization must see to it that he himself does not destroy that or ganization The safety and prosperity of the country depend on the success of the democratic party The safety of that party consists in main taining its organization That organization can only be preserved by a close adherence to regular St Clair County friend writes us that the democrats of St Clair county are going to do better than usual The local feeling is in a great measure been forgotten Harrington John Clark Esq are the candidates nominated for the Legislature and they will be elected by an increas ed majority The nomination of Bingham the same correspondent says is more popular than any that could have been made and he will receive a very large vote in the county The nominations for the State Senate give good satisfaction and will receive the unanimous support of the demo cracy Berrien The democracy of Berrien have nominated Maj Britain and Hon John Groves for the Legislature Mr Britain is a prom inent democrat and an able man He has been in the Legislature of the state and has held various other important posts Mr Groves has been twice a member of the House and is favorably known throughout the state We clip from the Albany Argus of riday the following extract of a letter dated Castlebar Ire land Sept 17 1846 received by a resident of Alba ny by the last steamer people of Ireland are in a most frightful state on account of the total loss of the potato crop Indeed it is hard to say what may result from it but everything has a sad and alarming appearance at present The masses have commenced assembling in thousands and march into the several towns call ing for work and bread and it is to be feared they will soon go farther by acts of violence and if once commenced it is hard to say where it may end This day we expect several thousands into this town as there is a meeting called by the his sher iff or Representatives GEORGE follow ing to the first and third of which we fully eub scribe with our construction of their meaning lstA currency for the people as well as the The repeal of the Sub Treasury 4 ProteCtionto Amertcan industry ThVrepeai rf the BtyTsh The first issue currency for the people as wel as the as supported by us would mean that currency which knows no which can be neither expanded to day or contracted to morrow the currency of the Constitution the only legal tender of debts With it a man can go to sleep at night with a full consciousness that when he wakes it will be good 1 The second issue to repeal the Sub Treasury would if carried into effect place the money of the people into the hands of dishonest banks for safe keeping and would allow these swindling shops to issue three dollars on paper for every dollar of Gov ernment coin in their possession The third to American indus we go for with a perfect rush and hence we opposed the black Tariff of 1312 and upheld the Tariff of 1846 which though not as good as it might be opposes American industry less than any other tariff passed for many years The protection which American industry wants is protection from heavy and unjust taxation protection from the black mail which the manufacturer levies upon the industry of the West protection from unequal laws Industry can only be fully protected by al lowing it to sell where it can get the highest price and to purchase where it can buy cheapest The fourth issue is a repeal of the British If by this a repeal of the law throwing open her ports to American provisions is meant we oppose it If however the Express wishes Great Britain to throw open her ports to the commerce of the world and go free trade in practice as well as in theory we have no as Mr Clay said about the admission of Texas on the contrary we should be glad to see The Eng lish party to whose opinions the Express adheres in Great Britain was not only opposed to repealing the infamous corn laws but goes the whole fur the protective policy so that we arc at a loss for its meaning about the repeal of the British Tariff or why such a thing should be made an issue before the American people Does it fancy itself an
