DAILY REE PRESS Legislative ProeMdtags Michigan Jan 14 In the Senate Senator Parsons presented the pe tition of 90 citizens of Shiawassee for the appoint ment of commissioners to lay out a state road from Byron to the capital of the state Senator itzgerald presented a petition asking sn extension of the charter of the and Me Bank The House bill making an appropriation to aid in filling up the 1st Regiment of Michigan Volun teers appropriated The bill was referred to the committee on the militia and Gen Schwarz from said committee recommended that three be stricken out and five inserted it was concurred in and the resolution immediately passed It will go to the House and probably pass that body as amen ded The bill relative to legalizing the assessment of taxes in Port Huron was on motion Senator Loom is taken up and passed The classification of Senators in the 3d district then took place which resulted in Senator Dunham drawing for two years Senator Sinclair for one year and Senator Berry for two years Senator Thomson offered a joint resolution rela tive to the permanent enrollment of the 1st Regi ment ofMichigan Volunteers into the service of the United States under any act of Congress now in force or which may become a law during the pre sentsession of Congress It was referred to com mittee on the militia In the House the Speaker presented the petition of the township board of Greenfield township Wayne county praying the extension of the time for the collection of the taxes on account of the death of the collector Mr Harris presented the petition of the Rev A Van Raalte and others for an appropriation of State Lands to construct a pier at the mouth of Black River Mr Martin presented a petition for the incorporation of a company to construct a plank road from Eaton Rapids to the capitol Mr Mack offered a resolution instructing the ju diciary committee to inquire into the expediency of repealing chapter 94 of the Revised Statutes and conferring the powers imposed upon Justices of the Peace upon the county courts Mr Bingham introduced a bill to incorporate the Leoni Theological Institute which was refered The contested election case then came up which we have referred to in another letter Washington Jan 12 1848 Senate engaged in discussing the ten regiment bill But very slow progress is made towards pas sing it In the House there is nothing of interest transpiring New York Jan 10 The Northern Exchange Bank Brashers alls has failed Generali Ncott and Worth Extract from the Washington correspondent of the Eve Post Offiaial intilligence has come I understand of the arrest of Gen Worth by Gen Scott The difficulty is believed to have arisen out of the issue by the commanding general of the gener al order against letter writing It appeared to be the general impression of the officers in the army in Mexico that Gen Worth was alluded to as one of the conceited and envious Gen Worth addressed a very respectful note to Gen Scott asking a frank avowal from him whether he must consider himself obnoxious to the reproof con veyed in that order Gen Scott evaded a direct reply but answered the note Gen Worth respectfully repeated the request To this second note Gen Scott declined giving a more specific answer and informed his correspon dent that he could not hold himself responsible for the inference it might please the offioers to draw from his phraseology General Worth thereupon drew up a statement of the entire correspondenee between the command er in chief and himself and addressed it to the Sec retary of War with remarks of his own as to the injustice with which he had been treated and assur ing the Secretary that but for hip regard to the public service he should file charges against Gen Scot This statement directed as an appeal to the Sec retary of War he sent unsealed to Gen Scott re questing him to transmit it to Washington Gen Scott refused to forward it at the request of Gen Worth but forthwith put Gen under arrestiand reported him to the War Department for insolence to his superior and to sustain the charges transmits the statement drawn up by Gen Worth This is the gist of the controversy as I have it from good authority I cannot undertake of course to give the exact language of documents that I have never seen Adventure of a Burglar One of the ladies in Mrs De 76 Division street on lifting up a feather bed which was lying on the floor in one of the upper rooms of the house a day or two since was somewhat startled at discovering a man under it When discovered he expressed great fear of exposure and begged piteously to be allowed to leave the house But this was not deemed prudent and the lady locked the intruder in the room for the purpose of holding a council of war with the other inmates Of the house The fellow however succeeded by his thumping at the door to attract the attention of another lady in the upper part of the bouse who was ignorant of the discovery She unlocked the door and he rushed paat her but was met in the lower hall by several other ladies of the house Thus cornered he feigned insanity representing himself as a broker from Detroit who was pursued by enemies whom he wished to avoid As proof of his identity he exhibited a draft which was pronounced genuine by a gentleman who had come in meanwhile The game of insanity was successfully played that real compassion was excited for him: and he was invited to remain in the house This however he declined and left his friends pitying his helplessness He no sooner touched the side walk than he ran with all his might from the scene of his adventure no doubt re joicing over his fortunate escape and his own in genuity He is discribed as a young man about 23 with dark eyes and general propossessing looks He had on a common overcoat but the other portions of his dress were not marked Although he may be insane we have no doubt that he is one of the gang ef burglars who have been making themselves so busy with other property for a month past Nothing has been heard of the fellow since and probably nothing will be heard of him until some house or hen roost is robbed Albany Jour nal Atlantic Lake
