emigrants ar natives of soutnern Italy and Sicily it is ab solutely impossible to make them ship from other ports Besides it is feared that if the emigrant vessels ceased calling at Naples the port would eventually lose the emigrant trade In order to overcome these dif ficulties it has been proposed to set apart four or five large buildings outside the city especially for emi grants who will be conveyed to Naples in special trains and "escort ed by the police aboard their ships It is hoped that in view of the cir cumstances and jhe proposed pre cautions the American authorities will allow the emigrants to land on their arrival in the United States tions were taken by the authorities to have the cholera charge Iso lated When the epidemic of gastro en teritfs broke out the sanitary au thorities became alarmed but as they could not prevent the Neapol itans from eating fruit and naw veg etables nor prohibit the feast of St Jaguarius when the faithful kiss the relic containing the boiling blood of the patron saint of Naples or that of the virgin of Monte Vergine when they lick the pavement of the church for pennance they" thought the best plan would be to declare that the public health of Naples was excellent Unfortunate ly however five Neapolitans came to Rome and after a few days fell ill The doctors unhesitatingly di agnosed their illness as cholera The I result was that the government had to declare officially that Naples was suffering from a plague epidemic Strange to relate now that Naples has been declared to be Infected the number of cases reported officially is very small The government is afraid that steamships will refuse to embark Italian emigrants for America from Naples and as most 72 in pure linen hand made Cluny Ulotns Usual price $3000
