down to defeat at the hands of the crack Central High eleven yesterday afternoon at the Detroit Athletic club by a of 40 to 0 The score does not indicate how desperately the Indians fought Two of scores which were made by George Widman: were of the lucky order In Widman scored four of seven touch downs all of which were of the spec tacular order In the first 1 half his work counted for little but ln the second he proved himself one of the stars of the eleven coupled with Slo man and Hanneman or Eastern the work ot" Bullion at left end: was brilliant Not once in the whole con test he fail torspill an interfer ence and had hec had a good taels ling half 'to work with him gains around that end would nave been greatly decreased Honorable nripntion is also due Kratt Lampson Harms and Merz their defensivework being of the best order The first named was forced to drop out' of tli game during the first half on ac count of a severe injury to hls side It was also necessary for Slo man to quit late in the' second per iod The last named injury may prove serious it being thought that he either broke or dislocated bis shoulder The first half was played in the shortest time In the history of the school games ut four minutes being taken cut the whole time on the' field during this period totaling but tventy nine minutes Eastern played on defense almost continually The game opened with Sloman kicking off to Lampson and Central held and forced Lampson to punt on the third down East ern put up a most stubborn resistance and it took Central twelve minutes to' score and from the three yard line it took the Cen tral eleven the whole three downs to put the baP over Sloman making the score and kicking goal The next score did not come until twenty three minutes of play had been used up Hanneman "getting this and Sloman again goaling In just one and one half minutes more of 'play Widman scored running fifty live yards for tbe final score of the half Sloman again froal Irg The half ended with the ball in East possession Pratt falling on a fumble just as time was called Bush who was substituted for Lawton after Crabb had to show class in that position scored the? first touchdown for Central in the second half after six minutes of hard play threedowns from the one yard line being necessary before the point was scored His good playing so ex cited Sloman that he missed his first goal Widman cored the remaining three touch downs Central running twenty three yards for the first eighty five for the sec ond and the third on hi longest run of the day one of ninety' yards The first ceme after eleven minutes of play and the second had an Intermission of just 45 sec onds After his third touchdown he was taken out Torbet going In This made the backfield all subs and Central could not gain with any rnan but Hanneman and wtfs twice forced to punt before time: was called Eastern High made her 'first: down three times' twice In the first half and one in the second On the other hand they held six different times The punting of Lampson was one fine feature of the game Not once did he fail to boot: the pigskin at least thirty five yards Ho was also quick on picking up' fumbles
