Rockford Ill Oct 26 Camp Grant epidemic of influenza and pneumonia which has taken a death toll of 1040 sturdy soldier boys every one of them is practically a thing of tne past much to the relief of Indiana fathers and mothers of se lects at this cantonment as well as to the Indiana men at the camp them selves The medical authorities at the camp have officially declared the epidemic at an end There are still a number of Influenza cases developing each day and pneumonia is still claiming its daily toll of death but the situation is well In hand having passed the epidemic stage 8 The deaths from pneumonia have dropped as low as two per day and the new cases of influenza are only a frac tion of wh it they were when the dis ease raged the fiercest The total num ber of pneumonia cases is less than 1000 and of this number 80 per cent are said to be out of danger Might Have Been Worse Although the death list at Camp Grant was high in comparison with that in some camps when the virulance of the disease which raged Is taken into consideration the situation could have been worse The pneumonia infection was of the worst type and it required an unusual amount of vitality to throw it off once it got into active operation The Indiana medical men of whom there are many at the base hospital are entitled tb much credit for the manly fight they waged their efforts being untiring i To
