Jan Palach remembered by Romans ROME (AP) The Romans unveiled yesterday a monument to Jan Palach, the Czechoslovak student who burned himself to death a year ago to protest Soviet-led repression. Mayor Clelio Dalida accepted the monument as a gift to the city by thousands of Romans who contributed to a drive for funds launched by a daily newspaper here. The bronze monument portrays Palach wrapped in the flames and stretching his hands skyward. It is the work of sculptor Vittorio del Colbertaldo. In the unveiling ceremony, the mayor renamed the square where the monument stands Piazza Jan Palach.

The square is at one end of Via Czcoslovacchia in a modern district near the Olympic Stadium. Marriage Licenses SHELDON POTO, Ray, 29, 3807 Dunlap; Pamela Kay, 26, 3807 W. Dunlap. SHELLEY SCHEMPF, Joseph 51, 1001 E. San Juan; Rita 56, 1001 Juan.
