Jimmie Birdcreek, of Phoenix AZ, began his journey on July 4, 2001 after a lengthy illness. He leaves behind his wife, Isabel Zuni-Birdcreek, and 2 grandchildren Aaron and Marissa all of Phoenix, and a brother Wallace Birdcreek of Weleetka, OK. Jimmie was born May 29, 1928 in Weleetka, OK. Tom was a staff attorney at the Arizona Court of Appeals from 1979 to the present.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Sadye Marcus, long-time Nogales residents, paternal grandparents Harold and Bertha Gordon of Massachusetts. Jolley, 72, of Sun City Arizona, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Boswell Memorial Hospital in be Sun City. Service was held in his hometown, Washington, N.C., where he rests. Jolley was born in Beaufort Courity, N.C. on Aug. 18, 1928.

He was married to the former Hiroko Miyata, who survives. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War IL. He worked for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad as a radio operator, and later became an artist and art educator. He graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor's degree in Art Education and a Master of Fine Arts degree from University of Guanajuato Allende.

He served on the faculties of several universities in the U.S. and Mexico. His works were 5, shown in numerous exhibitions and are owned widely by public and private organizations, including National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC, where he served as an Art Consultant for 12 years. As an Art Educator, he had a great impact on his former students, many of whom are now professionals in the Fine Arts field. Though he passed away, his art lives on.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend with a great sense of humor. Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Mazur and Jessica Reilly; three sons, Doug Jolley, Buck Reilly and Christian Jolley; two sisters, Barbara Ray and Thelma Dixon; one brother, Carl Jolley; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Zodrow. Clemy Jones, 74, of Youngtown AZ, died July 4, 2001. Born in Wainwright, OK and moved to Arizona in 1945.

Served in the US Air Force during WWII. Adam was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 12, 1921. After 32 years at Modern Tool Die Corp. Cleveland, Ohio, he retired and, troved to Sun City West, Arizona, with his wife Dolores where they have made their home for the past 20 years. Since then he has been an employee of Del Web Corporation and recently retired in June of this year. He is survived by his wife Dolores of 59 years, his son, Ray of Seattle, and his daughter Carol of Strongsville, Ohio.

Also survived by four grandchildren, Dena, Rick, Michael, and Jennifer, and six great-grandchildren. Adam was a loving and caring husband and father. Services will be held Sunday, July 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the Crown of Life Lutheran church, 13131 Spanish Garden Sun City West, Arizona. The family would like to request donations be made to either the Sun City West Hospice or American Cancer Society in memory of Adam.

Ruben Merino, 76, Phoenix Arizona, White Tanks, Paz passed away June 29, -2001. Car Services Funeral Home. Florence (Flo) Marie CalemberMortensen, age 81, of Phoenix AZ, died on July 3, 2001. She grew up on the family farm in Kanawha, Iowa, was the only person from her high school class to attend college, graduated from Iowa State University in 1941, worked for one of the nation's first day care centers, married Don Robotka, and had three children: Helen, Jerry and Bill. Settling in Mason City, Iowa, she subsequently raised her children alone, eventually becoming a department manager for Sears.

In 1959 she re-married to Joe Calember, remained in Mason City until the children were grown, then left Iowa, settling in Phoenix in 1973, managing apartments until Joe's death in 1990. In the last decade of her life, Flo was blessed with the support and love of many friends and family while she faced declining health. In 1991 she began a friendship with Herb Mortensen that culminated in their marriage on June 23, 2001, a day of celebration and love. Flo lived her life with courage, humor and optimism. She was generous with those in need and unbending in her belief in equality and fairness.

She will be missed by her husband Herb Mortensen, daughter Helen Fistler and Jon, son Jerry Robotka and Connie, son Bill Robotka and Karen, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many friends. McCarthy The Arizona Republic Retired Mesa Police Chief Leonard "Len" Kotsur died Thursday at Mesa Lutheran Hospital from complications of kidney failure and pneumonia. Kotsur was 62.

A Pennsylvania native, Kotsur joined the Mesa Police Department in March 1961 and became chief in May 1982. He served with the department for almost 27 years, until a head-on car collision with a drunken driver in March 1987 left him a quadriplegic. More than 500 people, including law enforcement personnel from throughout the state, attended his retirement party months Among Kotsur's accomplishments: hiring civilians to perform support services to allow officers more time on the beat, starting the Mesa Police Pistol Club and instituting the D.A.R.E. drug-awareness program in Mesa Public Schools. A devout Catholic, he also was one of 25 people to be blessed by Pope John Paul II when the pontiff visited Sun Devil Stadium six months after Kotsur's accident.

He is survived by three sons, Kevin, Brian and Troy; a brother, Robert; and five grandchildren. Son Kevin is assistant chief of investigations for the Tempe Police Department. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 2213 N.

Officers at the prison found Stephen Ybarra, 31, unconscious in his maximum-security cell with a sheet tied around his neck Thursday night. They performed CPR, and Ybarra was flown to Casa Grande Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m.

Friday. According to Department of Corrections. records, Ybarra was serving a 20-year sentence for sexual abuse, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated assault and resisting arrest. His earliest possible release date on these charges would have been in 2018, according to the DOC public information office.
