Detroiters reads: "McCarthy has one fault seldom seen in a major league pitcher By the way he twists his arm when he pitch es an outeurve that batter can readily tell what is coming Cross and Hartsel the match race series for $200 at the Tawas bay re gatta last week gives the practical assur ance that these two crack 35 footers will meet again In a short time It is now fettled that both boats will be entered in the sweepstakes races at the Detroit Yacht Club regatta August 30 and they will bo sailed by their managing owners Commo dore Alex McLeod on Detroit and Com modore John Shaw on Cadillac It Is barely possible that they will meet In a match race before this time as there is some little talk of it now but It is more probable that a match race will be sailed off in the regatta Both Struggled to his feet Gardner was on him like a flash He worked his right and left like piston rods on Root's ribs and Root sank slowly to' his knees Then he rolled over on his back and though he was of the mark Little damage was done until the fourth round when Hart began to land straight lefts to the face He followed this blow each time with right to the stomach and at the end of the round Stlft was hanging on in the clinches to save himself from defeat The fifth round was tame both men being tired from their ef forts In the last round Stlft 'seemed the stronger of the two but Hart by rough
