Detroit Real Estate Investment Co Ltd The idea uppermost in the minds of the promoters of this enterprise McLaughlin and Hnnnan was to give to the small investors of this city an opportunity to become part owners in a productive enterprise which they say has for its financial basis free and clear real estate equal in value to its entire issue of stock Another important object which the organizers of this company say they have in view is the harmonious im provement and development ot more than 250 acres of splendid residence property in the center of the North Woodward avenue district It is 'the purpose of the company to develop this property along lines which win suit the tastes and preferences of the self respecting and well to do homo owner It is proposed to prevent the erection of flats apartment houses and factories by imposing strict building restrictions The third consideration which led to the organization of a powerful syndi cate for the transaction of local real' estate business was the fact that there are many propositions which pre sent themselves in connection with the handling of large properties which the individual dealer finds him self unable to successfully contend with The new company will do a reg ular real estate brokerage business but will aim to secure a class of busi ness which cannot be successfully handled by the individual dealer Tn all of the large eastern cities real estate investment companies organized for purposes described have been doing business for several years with the greatest success The new company has a capital stock ot $1250000 and the real estate back of the enterprise includes according to those interested the holdings of the' Park Hill Land Co and the Voigt farm tract Included in this tract are twenty one acres of public parks and more than ten miles of boulevard The Woodward avenue frontage is about 2500 feet the boulevard frontage equals 20000 feet frontage and there is 20000 feet of frontage on other lateral streets There are twelve streets and boulevards Included in the territory owned by the company and one of the i first undertakings will be to secure the proper improvement of these streets Boston and Chicago boulevards the two streets which with the parks which they enclose may be properly termed the axis of this splendid resi dence tract which extends from Ham ilton boulevard on the west to Oak land avenue on the east will' be ex tended west from Woodward aVtehue and made to exactly correspond with the plan of development which has been followed in making Boston bou levard the beautiful street that it is the pride and boast of all residents of the north end Voigt park will be Im proved and made a fitting monument to the enterprise of the former owner of the property Voigt The Voigt arm tract will be replatted in to make the size of the lots and the general plan of the streets con form to the system of platting which has been followed on the other side of Woodward avenue In the organization of this company a large amount of outside capital has been brought into the city those inter ested announce The recent sale of the Voigt farm tract to eastern capi talists the first step and later a western capitalist was secured Charles Hannan of Council Bluffs la Mr Hannan who is a brother of Hannan of this city has been en gaged in the business of banking for several years 'but having recently sold out his banking interests in Council Bluffs was induced to take a large block of stock in the new enterprise John Gordon who will represent the eastern parties interested in the new company is a heavy individual stockholder The officers of the company which were elected in Detroit yesterday are as follows: President A Stephens vice president Charles 1 Hannan treasurer George Russel: secre tary McLaughlin John Gor don was chosen manager The board of directors will consist of the officers of the company and Hannan An advisory board has been appointed which will confer with the directors in connection with the deciding of all Important questions The men who have been chosen as members of the advisory board from the list of the stockholders are McMillan Col rank Hecker Truman II Newberry Ashley Pond Henry Russel Hawks Ledyard John Gordon and Charles Hannan The manager Mr Gordon will be here on the ground this week and will establish an office for the transaction of business While discussing the aims and inten tions of the new company last even ing McLaughlin made the fol lowing statement to a representative of The ree Press: men who have associated themselves in the organization of this new company want it distinctly under stood that' no attempt will be made to monopolize the local brokerage business in connection with real es tate to the exclusion of the Individual dealer but that the company will con fine its operations within its legitimate the handling of larger un dertakings than the individual dealer can hope to handle successfully The new company will place a certain amount of its stock issue on the mar ket and the directors hope to secure the co operation of the local real es tate fraternity in disposing of this stock to small investors who may de sire to make an in an en terprise which has back of it a large tract of the most valuable city real estate in the United i 19 19 20 20 20 21 21 21 21 21 An the pass age of a primary election bill by send ing out to all voters pamphlets signed by John Davis chairman of the com mittee under whose direction the bill was formulated Mr vavis in nis troduction invites criticism of measure the idea being to have whole matter argued out before i a in rp mftC'ts so that if there imperfections they may be remedied leaving the legislators no excuses such as those under which they defeated the Colby bill A noteworthy feature of the bill is that it seeks to define the number ot voters which a party shall have in or der that it may be dignified with a column on the official ballot for the final election The bill specifies that the election commissioners shall give no separate column to candidates whose party vote in the preceding pri maries has been less than 10 per cent of the total vote cast The bill is Intended to cover the whole state and it appears that the framers of the measure figured that sooner or later United States senators would be elected by popular vote as machinery is provided for returning the vote on these officials The bill differs in one respect from the one under which the recent city election in Grand Rapids was held In the urniture City bill it is provided that there shall be a separate ballot for each party on the theory that this will prevent voters of one party from being tempted to Interfere with the nomination Of some other party with the plan of bringing about the naming of weak candidates on the rival tick et The Grand Rapids plan worked to the entire satisfaction of its friends The Municipal bill provides only for ballots on which the names of all candidates are to be printed nominated and he will be elected next November It is likely that his majority will be reduced because it is an off year when business men and workingmen alike are not so much in terested as when national issues are at One hundred and twenty five years ago yesterday the American flag was born the continental congress of the American colonies which were then in revolt against the tyranny ot the mother country accepting the design which to day is the pride of everyone permitted to dwell beneath its shelter ing folds The original design which is said to have been furnished by Betsey Ross of Philadelphia contain thirteen stripes symbolic of the thirteen colonies the stripes colored red and white alternately with thir teen stars in'the field of blue In 1818 the design was changed so as to pro vide for the addition of as many stars as there were states and that idea is still in force Detroit
