Miller who has always been a mystery to Cleveland batters was wild giving eight passes but when the ball was' placed over the plate it was not hit safely or seven innings hot a hit had been: made off for a single but this play nipped Bemis at the plate with what would have been the tying fun It was an elegant day for fast pitch ing so Manager Armour put in Wright and he had the visitors guessing all the time with the exception of one inning the fourth when the Tigers made their two runs But six hits were made off his delivery two of them bunts and he gave tout three bases on balls Harley saved the game for the Detroits in the ninth inning by a phenomenal catch Hemphill who was batting in place of Thoney hit one to deep left between Harley and Barrett and it looked safe every inch of the way Harley came tear ing across the field after the ball and was just able to pull it in with one hand while going at full speed The hit looked good for at least a double Bemis" was allowed to walk and he advanced on out Then Pick ering hit one which gave Holmes a chance to distinguish himself by a great throw to the Lplate from right field preventing the tying run only runs were scored in the fourth inning when Casey hit one right over second Harley attempted to sacrifice but Bradley hesitated a second while holding the ball to see where he should throw the ball and this allowed both his word more Often In Chicago the National root ers kept time with step in going to and coming from his position toy choruses of jump just as Detroit fans time Griffith's step with "left left The said the owners of the Michigan club invited him to send any papers he might have to serve This past week just before the De troit club was scheduled to go on its eastern trip Mr Mautner made an affidavit for arrest as the pre liminary step to securing papers for apprehension When the af fidavit and application for requisition papers on the Michigan authorities was presented to Governor Durbin' the Indiana executive refused to issue the requisition papers His refusal is based on the contention that Mr action is commenced to en force a civil contract rather than be ing in the line of criminal procedure As the ort Wayne man is most anxious to prosecute Mullin himself this will probably end the matter It is not believed that he will sue Mullin 4 who has no property 'or the Detroit
