weeks over the Central Railroad for three days ending to day at 9 were as follows: Iloreee 17! 3 53 30 30 The Murder of Sara Alexander The murder of Abel must have been in tensely interesting at the time because of its absolute novelty but since then and es pecially of late In New York the crime has become so common that unless it Is sur rounded by peculiar circumstances it attracts little attention Now we have a murder not so mysterious as others recorded yet strange enough to be one of those dramas of crime which the public never tires of studying The circumstantial evidence thus far points to Pcsaeh Nathan Rubenstein as the murder er of Sara Alexander the young girl who found with her throat cut In a corn field oji the outskirts of East New York Many fails inevitably make him the object of sus picion He was intimate with his cousin She nursed liitn in an liiness in April last At the time of her death she was enviintc About thia time his wife and child are ex pected to arrive from Europe lie has been identified as the man who rode'ta thp same car with her on Sunday evening and the two were seen walking together when they left the car toward the place where the body of the girl was found On Monday night Rubenstein rose from bis bed and told his father of a dream he bud Ip phich Sara aine to him and cried I Papa See moi see tne I have been killed I have been taken ten miles from New York and killed Come to me ootprints were found in the field which correspond to the size and shape of bis boots even to a broken place in one of the soles and tome of the dirt which remains on the lioots resembles the soil of the field Upon these facts a plausible theory of guilt may be conr stiucted Tbs motive and the method of the crime may be inferred from them And yet Rubenstein may be innocent He may have reduced Sira Alexander and have accom panied her to the corn field and still have had no share in bpr death On stronger clrennistartial evidence' than that wc have collated many an innocent man bein convicted condemned and hung If Rubenstein did kill the girl hp will probably confess die apparently loved her and bls'seetus to be the kind of mind which from the consciousness of fuch guilt would suffer agonies of terror and remorse As piniing that he is guilty vie have another example of the gigantic folly as well as crime which almost always Is involved in murder He was afraid that bls sin would be known to his family and his eeaf he was probably disturbed by the reproaches of the young woman end alarmed at the expected return of his wife1 Life seemed easy and tbo future plain if he could only get rid of thia exposure and disgrace dp that he must nd himself of the girl Her death would be attributed toothers to one of those vile gongs of outlaws which infest the subrrbs of the city Noone would suspect him If Rubenstein is guilty it was thus no doubt that he reasoned But wbat stupendeus foily I To escape from a little sbame be pishes into a horrible erime Ha kills the girt and $he is silent to others but forever eloquent to him Jn the stillness of the night she calls to him from the field where she lies on her bloody bed Not only i re iKorsfl forever on hfs track but the law joins la Hie hunt Like most criminals he is un able to coecbI the trag of his deed The dead bodj always remains ami starting from that mute witness the bloodhounds of the Jaw unerringly pursue the fugitive murderer through all the labyrinths in which he vainly hopes to hide There is a lesson in this to ail who ignorantly fancy that security from the consequences of one crime can be estab listed on thp foundations of (New Vwfc 40 28 18 18 22 6 SALE Notice is hereby y7 Virtue of a decree of the Circuit Court for tho County of Warne and State of
