Melinda, the self-proclaimed First Lad of Magic, started over three years ago in Las Vegas with a tiny revue in the Bourbon Street Hotel and then moved, some say prematurely, to the Landmark Hotel. Her show closed at the Landmark the end of 1989, but will soon be re-opening at the MGM Marina. Hotel management is doing their best to help the production by enlarging the stage. Jazz singing great Billy Eck-stine, is still keeping a full schedule despite the fact that he soon celebrates his 76th otto near the ooid toast notei, sports a number of features that are Rio-like, including Brazil's number-one musical recording star over the past 25 years.

The Store, which has been a weekly mainstay of the hotel for more than five years, will be moving downtown to the Golden Nugget Feb. 14.

At the Nugget though, the performances of the Comedy Store will be on an irregular basis. After moving the telethon from Caesars Palace to the downtown Cashman Field Theater last year, local officials of the MDA said they expected written word soon that the telethon will be moved. The main question was "Why?" Some locals speculate that it would be cheaper and logisti-call more sound to stage the event in Hollywood, the television capital. Others speculate that Jerry is not happy with the attitude of hotels and city officials towards the telethon recently. There was a big to-do several months ago over local firemen not being able to canvass city roads to raise money for the telethon this year. And, a plan to rename the Cashman Field Theater after Jerry, who lives in Las Vegas, also fell through.

Until Jerry is back home and maybe not even then the speculation as to why the MIX telethon would be moved, remains just that, speculation. By the time you read this, it is possible that the seven-month-old Las Vegas musicians strike against several major hotels may be over. Last Thursday the Musicians' Union and the "big 5" hotels that are doing the negotiating with them were closer than ever to coming to a settlement. According to the hotels' legal representative, there are about seven or eight major issues that are keeping them from coming to an agreement with the union. The union feels the same.
