Use Right Tackle The type of tackle to employ for bay or inshore fishing depends upon the strength of the current or tide, since it is essential to use a sinker heavy enough to troll a bait within reach of the fish. When you're fishing the usual quiet bay waters, a lightweight bay rod that will handle a three- to four- ounce bank or bass casting sinker is sufficient. If you are fishing a mile or so offshore, where there is a greater depth of water, then you may find a stiffer rod more desirable.

(AP) Ohio State has the inside track in the 20th NCAA baseball tourney after a showdown victory over No. 1-ranked Southern California. Unheralded St. John's of New York is the only other unbeaten club. The Big Ten champs, ranked No.

2 nationally, breezed past USC 6-2 Tuesday night in the second round as Big Steve Arlin fired a three-hitter and struck out 12. St. John's, 2-0 winner over Texas on Walt Witowski's five hitter, wasn't even supposed to be in the District 2 tourney if you talk to Scton Hall fans. The selection of St. John's created an uproar because the Redmen lost five of their last eight regular season games and tied for second behind Seton Hall in the Metropolitan Conference.

Selection was based on the club's 1.76 pitching staff earned run average and solid .281 team batting The Redmen have gone unbeaten since their selection for a 25-7 mark, taking the committee off the spot. In the losers' bracket, Arizona, ranked No. 3, eliminated Northeastern of Boston, 8-1, and Oklahoma State's Big Eight champs ousted North Carolina, 5-1. In games today, St. John's challenges Ohio State, Arizona takes on Southern Cal and Oklahoma State Battles Texas.

Arlin used 143 pitches and was touched for a two-run homer by Buddy Gordon. The buckeyes, now 24-5, have 10 straight games since April 2 without a loss, marred only by a scoreless tie. USC had won 12 straight.
