TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 1939 ALTON EVENING TELEGRAPH PAGE Obituaries Robert Forbes Funeral rites for Robert Forbes, 29, of Crescent, formerly of Alton will be conducted Thursday at 9 a.m. in Burke Funeral Home. Burial will be in Upper Alton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Forbes, who was a son of Toney Forbes of Alton, and Mrs. Rose Wren Probst of Crescent, died Saturday- in City Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Peggy, to whom he was married in April of 1958; a daughter, Nancy Lee Forbes, Alton, and a brother, Toney D. Forbes.

Crescent, Mo. A stonemason by trade, he had been employed by Durra Stone in St. Louis previous to his illness. Mrs.MaryElmore WHITE HALL Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Herron Elmore died Monday at 11:45 a.m.

as she was hearing her ninety-seventh birthday. Her death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bina A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Herron, she was born Nov.

1, 1862. She had resided in White Hall for the past 22 years. She had been twice married and both husbands preceded her in death. Her first -marriage was to Voyles and following his death she was married to William Elmore. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs.

Talkington and Mrs. Viola Holly, White Hall, and Mrs. Anna Sands, McLeansboro; a son, Marion Voyles, Kempcr, and a number of grandchildren and great- grandchildren. The body is at Dawdy Funeral Home where rites will be conducted Wednesday at. 2 p.m.

Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery, east of Roodhouse. Mrs. Alta Day -CARROLLTON-Mrs. Alta Joy Day, widow of Henry Dallie Day, died Monday at 3:45 p.m. in Boyd Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for seven weeks, She was 75.

Mrs. Day was born in Calhoun County, May 14, 1994, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Joy. Her husband died Sept.

27, 1944. Surviving are five sons, Clyde and Muriel, Carrollton; Clinton and Theodore, Eldred, and Kenneth, Brighton; two daughters, Mrs. L. C. Lpckyer, East Alton, and Mrs.

Donald Johnson, Alton; five sisters, Mrs. Allie Saunders and Mrs. May Sauls, Long Beach, Mrs. Ada Stone and Mrs. Edith Hester, Los Angeles, and Mrs.

Leta Elliston, Bell, and a brother, John Bell, Calif. The body is at wlehl Funeral Home. Robert Lance EDWARDSVILLE Robert Leslie Lance, 71, of Glen Carbon, a retired construction worker and former guard at the Granite City Army Engineers Depot, died at 11 p.m. Monday at his residence of apparent heart attack. A resident of Glen Carbon for 38 years, he previously lived at Vincennes, Ind.

Born Dec. 21, 1887, in Spencer County, a son of the late John and Vltura Hickman Lance. He was married June 7, 1924, to Janet G. Ferris of Glen Carbon, Observant of Every. Wiih Heedful of Need.

who survives. Also surviving are a son and daughter, Alexander L. Lance and Mrs. Robert Murray, both of iKdwardsville; a brother, Jesse Lance of Winslow, and a sister, Mrs. Sam Goodall of Tcr- jre Haute, and four surviving grandchildren.

He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. having served in the Phillipines. and was affiliated with the Methodist Church. Funeral services are to be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lesley Marks Funeral Home by The Rev.

Frank E. Harris, pastor of Immanuel Methodist h. with burial in Glen Carbon Cemetery. Friends may eall at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday, C.

McGaughey WORD EN Charles Me- Gaughey, 85, Staunton real estate dealer, died Monday. He is survived by his widow, Emma, to whom he was married in 1914. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Mr. McGaughey was born Dec.

3, 1873, near Prairietown. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Williamson funeral home in Staunton, with burial in Wordcn cemetery. The Rev. Leo Mabry, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Staunton, will officiate.

Charles Havelen Riles Conducted CARROLLTON rites for Charles Havelen, 80, who died Sunday at Jerseyville, will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p. m. in Melil Funeral Home by the Rev. Dick Monroe of White Hall. Burial will be in HopewelJ Cemetery, Carrollton.

Friends may visit the funeral home afler 3.p.m. today. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James M.

Havelen, he was born May 26, 1875, at Cincinnati, Ohio. His wife, the former Dora Harper, died Feb; 4, 1943, and a son, Clyde, died in 1952. Surviving are four sons, Rollin and Melvin, Kenosha, James, Peoria, and Leo, White Hall, and two daughters, Mrs. Leta Mae Augustine, Kenosha, and Mrs. Helen Clark, Clinton, Minn.

Gregory Henneman Rites Conducted Rites were held Monday at 9 a.m. in Burke Funeral Home for Gregory Edward Henneman, 5, son of Major and Mrs. H. Henneman. The Rev.

Father Donald Meehling of SS Peter Paul's Catholic Church officiated at the services and at committal rites in Patrick's Cemetery. Louis Krepel, Louis Lucker, and Edward Henneman, Alton, and Roger Lucker, Milwaukee, uncles, were pallbearers. Claude Clutts Rites Conducted, With the Rev. C. L.

Gruver, pastor of Alton Gospel Tabernacle, officiating, funeral rites for Claude Clutts, 53, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Gent Chapel. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. Mrs. A.

H. Hermann was organist for the service. Pallbearers were William Borum, Seth W. Lauchner, Elmer and Paul Allen, Perry Houchens, and Robert Scoggins. William Prewitt Rites Conducted Following funeral rites Monday at 10 a.m., at Marks Mortuary, Wood River, the body of William Prewitt, East Alton sailor, who was fatally injured last Thursday in an automobile accident, near Norfolk, was taken to Anna for burial in Casper Cemetery.

Trading was heavy. Volume for the day was esti mated at 4,100,000 shares com pared with 3,580,000 Monday. The list was a mixture of gains and losses running from fractions to about 2 points. Steels, motors and rails were mixed. Oils rallied strongly from an oversold condition.

Profit taking cut deeply into recent wide gains of many space age stocks. It was a market with some issues driving ahead bullish- ly and the others sinking sharply.
