Mills was deputy state engineer I James Stuart Mills, 82, who had been with the State Highway Department for 38 years, retiring as deputy state engineer in 1957, died yesterday in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Mills, 39 W. Pasadena, was a life member of the Arizona section of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a life member of the Salvation Army Association.

Born in Dundee, Scotland, he moved to New York at the age of 9 and attended Columbia University and the University of Arizona, majoring in engineering. Survivors include his wife, Bertha; a son, Roberts S. of Phoenix; a brother in South Africa; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in A.

L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams. Cremation will follow. Paul J.

McLaren Paul J. McLaren, 77, a member and a custodian 10 years at the First United Methodist Church here, died Tuesday in John C. Lincoln Hospital. Mr. McLaren, 1009 E.

Maryland, was born in Dayton, Ohio, and moved to Phoenix in 1959 from Fredonia, N.Y., where he had been a salesman in ladies' ready-to-wear stores. He was a member of a Masonic lodge and a Rotarian. Survivors include his wife, Ethelyn; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Shook of Vestal, N.Y.; a son, James of Louisville, two sisters and a brother, all of Fredonia: five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m.

today in the church, 5510 N. Central. Entombment will be in Greenwood Mausoleum. The family suggests contributions to the intern program at the church. Mercer Mortuary made arrangements.

Evelyn White TOLLESON Mrs. Evelyn F. White, 54, a Sunday school teacher at the First Southern Baptist Church here, died Tuesday in a Phoenix hospital. Mrs. White, 9260 W.

Garfield, was born in Oklahoma, came to Arizona 33 years ago and had lived in Tolleson the past 21 years. Survivors include her husband, Clifford; three sons, James, Jack and Jerry, all of Tolleson; three sisters, Mrs. W. L. Baker of Tolleson, Mrs.

Melva Frazier of Avondale and Mrs. Ruth Swofford of Phoenix; two sisters and a brother out of state and three grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the church, 8 S. 92nd Drive.

Harden TUCSON-Virgil G. Harden, 51, district manager of Bekins Van and Storage here, died Monday. He transferred to Tucson 18 months ago. M. Marden was a member of the Sunshine Kiwanis Club, Tucson Racket and Swim Club and Sales and Mark Executive International.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Virginia Ann of Tucson; his mother, Mrs. Anna E. Harden of Roseville, and two brothers and a sister out of state. Services and burial will be in Roseville. Adair Funeral Home here is in charge of arrangements.

M. Pearl Link Mrs. M. Pearl Link, 82, a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, died Tuesday in Phoenix Baptist Hospital. Mrs.

Link, 3530 W. Mariposa, was born in Trenton, Canada, and came to Phoenix i in 1959 from Flint, Mich. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Clugston of Phoenix, a sister in Detroit and two grandchildren. Services will be at 3:30 p.m.

Wolff. 73, an inspector for the Michigan State Insurance Bureau for 43 years, died Tuesday in Mountain View Pioneer Hospital. Mr. Wolff, 11818 113th Drive, was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars here and a Masonic lodge in Detroit. Born in Chicago, he came here in 1961 from Detroit.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Moffatt of Phoenix; a son, Gene of Traverse City, five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lundberg's Golden Door Chapel, 11211 Michigan Ave. Burial will be in Suntand Cemetery.

The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society. Ella Belin Mrs. Ella Belin, 84, who was born in Johnsville, and came to Phoenix 12 years ago from Missouri, died yesterday in Scottsdale Baptist Hospital. Survivors of Mrs. Belin, 4933 E.

Virginia, include three sons, Clyde of Phoenix, Joe Taft, and William of St. Louis; a daughter, Mrs. Gladys McMullen of Oklahoma City; two sisters out of state; seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N.

Fridena 45, who had served on the staff of osteopathic hospitals in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa and Tucson, will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Grimshaw's Bethany Chapel, 710 W. Bethany Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Dr.

Fridena, 7032 N. Third died Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital i in Tucson. Born in Du Bois, he came to Phoenix in 1929 and attended Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix College, where he was student body president. After attending the University of Southern California he was graduated from the Los Angeles College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons in 1948, receiving the President's Award and serving as student body president.

He was a member various professional organizations, including the American Academy of CC science, mathematics head is dead DOUGLAS Dr. Robert A. Champlain, 49, professor of zoology and 1 chairman of the science and mathematics division at Cochise College, will be buried today in Eastlawn Cemetery in Tucson. Dr. Champlain, who died Monday in his home, came here three years attended Mitchell Colagnione lege in New London, and earned his bachelor of science degree at John Hopkins University in Batimore and his doctorate in philosophy at Ohio State University.

Prior to coming here, Dr. Champlain taught at Mitchell. He was a member of the Entomology Society. Survivors include his wife, Josephine; a son, Robert; a daughter, Mrs. George Faulkner, and two grandchildren, all of Tucson.

Douglas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mary E. Nichols PRESCOTT Memorial services for Mrs. Mary Evelyn Nicholas, 52, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Nicholas, who lived in the Groom Creek Pines area near here the past two years, was killed Tuesday in an automobile accident near her home. Born in Arkoe, she had lived in Arizona the past four years. She was taking a registered nursing course at Yavapai College. She had been a member of the Visiting Nursing Service in Phoenix for two years.

She was a member of the Yavapai College Faculty Dames Society and the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, Judd two daughters, Mrs. Judith V. Burnam of San Francisco and Mrs. Linda Jean Simmerman of Tucson; two sons, Donald of Tempe and Judd Karl, a student at Arizona State University; a sister out of state; her mother, Mrs.
