PAGE 2 Stale Freezes; 17 Below Here This Morning A sharp contrast in temperatures marked the weather picture in Wisconsin today, according to the Associated Press. Overnight minimums ranged from 18 below zero at Eau Claire to 17 degrees above zero in Milwaukee. Last night's low in Rhinolander was 15 below, the city pump station reported. At 8 o'clock this morning the mercury dropped again to 17 degrees below. But sunny skies shot the temperature up to 12 above by noon today.

Despite freezing temperatures, it was generally warmer throughout the stale than it was Thursday, Federal Weatherman Howard Thompson said. He predicted warmer weather for Saturday. Other sub-zero areas in the state today were La Crosse with 10 below and Wausau with minus 15 degrees. Previous to this time, the Milwaukee State dollege had been the only state college offering any graduate Rites Held Today For 'Muskie Joe' Graveside services for Joseph "Muskie Joe" Ciencalo, 68, town of Schoepke resident who died Wednesday night in St. Mary's Hospital, were held this afternoon in Forest Home cemetery.

The rites were conducted by the Rev. David M. Bey. The Carlson Funeral Home was in charge. Joseph Cienciala, better known as "Muskie Joe," was born Nov.

1, 1881, in Oderburg" on the Oder in Austrian Silesia, which became a part of Bohemia in the Czecho-Slovakian Republic formed after the first World War. He served six years in the Austrian army before coining to the United States in 1908. He arrived in St. Paul, a week before Thanksgiving and remembered killing 500 chickens on his first day of work in this country. He came to Elcho in 1912 and worked 14 years at the Muskie Inn, from which he received his nickname of "Muskie Joe." Since 1935 ho iias lived in Pelican Lake.

He came from a family of eight boys and five girls, but as far as is known, only he came to America. No relatives or survivors are known.
