Purists among the half-a-house (1,250) in Symphony Hall might have paled at the idea of the famed trio backed by a semi-rock band, but what the heck. The Lime-liters never really appealed to the purists. They were too busy having fun with their singing to worry. Sing they did, but it wasn't all a night of nostalgia. As Gottlieb had said in an interview, the Limeliters are working in the 70s now and their music reflects such.

This is not to say that the old didn't make its presence known. Each of the trio did numbers made, popular in, their heyday "Have Some Maderia, My Dear," "Baby, The Rain Must Fall," "Whistle and Let the Wind Blow," and 'Rumania, My Rumania." This time around, the group let everyone get in the act, including Mike Settles, who sang some absolutely fine backup vocals and a solo, and the duo of Brian Davies and Clark Maffitt. Of course the Limeliters harmonizing, always their trademark, was right on. And then there was the between-song patter and introductions, most notably by the eloquent (to say the least) Mr. Gottlieb.

Lou Gottlieb knows more adjectives and adverbs than Funk and Wagnalls and can use them better than Howard Cosell. In fact, perhaps only Edwin Newman has a better command of the mother tongue. Religious codes ruled diet habits JERUSALEM (UPI) In the early stages of civilization religious code often served as a substitute for hygenic code. Among other things prohibited were food cut with a sword, dog meat, human meat, meat' of -carnivorous animals. Also prohibited were locusts, camels, and hairless or excessively hairy animals.

There was a meeting in town Thursday night, a musical meeting presided over by the slightly famous Lime-liters. Too bad it couldn't: have lasted all night long. AA little older, a bit heavier in places perhaps, but still possessing the verve and magic that put them on top in the early 60s, the Lime-liters Glenn Yarbrough, Alex Hassilev and Lou Gottlieb were a true joy to behold.

Yarbrough in his basic black, Hassilev in his early flash and Gottlieb in his "executive hippie" outfit.
