The move took on additional importance with, the announcement that the curatorial and professional staff of the Museum of Primitive Art will also be transferred to the Metropolitan and that the new wing will be built to house the collection. It will be named the Michael C. Rockefeller Memorial Collection of Primitive Art in memory of Gov. Rockefeller's son. museum of primitive art has been his personal project.

Rockefeller's move was no surprise to the art world where the rumor has been circulating for some time although when asked about such speculation last week the governor had called it "no more than talk." His. statement at that time came during an interview in which he commented on the forthcoming exhibition at the Metro completed in three or four years, and the source of the funds, were not announced. The value of the collection is estimated at $20 million. Rockefeller made the announcement in his role as president of the Museum of Primitive Art, using the word "transfer" instead of "gift."
