"The truth of the matter is," he says, "I am a quiet family man without any pretensions, nor aspirations, in the game of love.

I like to think of myself as an actor, and an actor should be able to play romantic roles as convincingly as any other kind. But personally, I do not consider myself a superior lover." Today Boyer is contentedly playing a carpet-slipper role in "Fanny," the Joshua Logan production for Warner filmed in Marseilles, a day's journey from the small town of Figeac, where Boyer first had his diapers changed. In the Marcel Pagnol classic, he portrays Cesar, the owner of the Bar de la Marine and father of young llorst Buchholz. Completing the stellar quartet are Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier. Another actor might find it trying on his pride to switch from hand-kissing to bar-mopping, but to Boyer it is a welcome relief.

"If my stomach droops a little bit, it's all right. If my hair looks a little thinner, it's all right. I am playing a middle-aged man to whom alas things happen, and I have no obligation to appear dashing." Boyer, who for years has been a symbol of screen romance, continues to maintain his dual allegiance to France and America. As a busy Hollywood actor and one of the bosses of Four Star Films, the television company, he spends much of his time in America. However, he makes a yearly pilgrimage to France, accompanied by his wife and son in the approved bourgeoise manner to visit his kinfolk.

In a brave topper to his modest denial of the lover tag, Boyer announces that, prevailing legend to the contrary, he never uttered the famous phrase, "Come with me to the Casbah." With these passion-promising words, Boyer is credited with having lured Hedy Lamarr to a Moroccan love nest in the film "Algiers." "I hate to be a spoil sport," he says, "but so help me, I never said anything of the kind." Ronnie Dapo In Neiv Role HOLLYWOOD Ronnie Dapo, who plays a 7-year-old boy in Warner "Room For One More" series which begins on ABC-TV network in fall, has been cast in the title role of "Young Mr. Kelly," one of the studio's "SurfSide fi" series. story deals with a prize- fighter who hires a detective to guard his son.
