OCT. 1st 9:30 AM COME EARLY 9:30 AM AMAZING REDUCTIONS TO CLOSE ALL AT on Friday. Ciiaracters include Kingsley, Ravensvvcod (a buzzard), Barky (a deg with a soft Southern accent), and Kally (a cat). New to Phoenicians will be the innovation of Marty Kool. a "Cookie-typed" disc jockey complete with forelock of blonde hair.

Evelyn will be lending a hand with production and costumes and the girls are an appreciative audience. When Walker isn't up to his elbows in the fun of ad libbing, scripts or puppetry, he collects classic cars and does occasional stunt work. Somehow, a visit with the Edmistons leaves the impression there's never a dull moment in their household just isn't time! garet O'Brien, Jerry Lewis, Esther Williams told the kids "Ee still and watch." In Van Nuys, the Edmistons owned the Walker Edmiston School, a progressive preschool and kindergarten staffed with a director and three teachers for its limited enrollment of 34. It is the only privately-owned school in the country that Walt Disney licensed to use his characters. They capered in a circus room as well as in a music room with Fantasia decor.

THE FAMILY came to Phoenix through Dottic Carlson of AHK Productions of Scottsdale, for whom he created five puppet characters. After beginning his daily show over KOOL last week, he has found Phoenix audiences differ from those on the West Coast; feels we will have to get used to watching live shows again. He's back to scripts instead of his usual ad libbing; will beam the program at a family audience with specials for teen-agers for if a showman is an imitator, ull he can do is wait and imitate." The actor tried working with sculptors, then reverted to sculpting his own characters because they couldn't impart the human warmth he deems essential. He starts from scratch with clay, makes the molds and these are duplicated in latex. Some of his puppets are leased for commercials to nationally known firms, sometimes being purchased when they become a trademark identified with the product.

Others are strictly for his own use. Only one human has he designed Albert Muggs. a big-mouthed, lovable friendly thug. Walker's own trademark is Kingsley, an affectionate lion. His first to "make the mark" besides the ones he designed and voiced on "Time for Beanie" which won two national "Emmys," was Willie the Wolf.

Showtime fun spills over into vthe rollicking household. It in-v'cludes his dark-eved wife of 12 Sjears, Evelyn, who helps with production and costuming, --Tdaughters Andria-Reagen, fi, Erin Lee, 5, Goliath (their vpoodle) and Niko (a slinky black Burmese cat). OOOPS-FORGOT-if you go )ut the back door, you'll find vTrooper, a doleful bloodhound waggin' for a pat on the head, vand being nudged aside by his sidekick Billie. Billie is the goat vthat made the trek from Van t'Nuys along with the rest of the family. He's lived with the dog always, so isn't sure he IS a Add to the warmth of this fun-tT loving family a bit of Walker's philosophy "I've never learned that you -CAN'T do something.

If you "adapt all your facilities to it, your mental energies, then can." This philosophy along with his Ability to build or create anything he wants, he attributes to ihi dad. And the same bent carried him to the top in j-puppetry in the world of TV, as ijwell as to trophies in sports car '-facing. Originally from St. Louis, 'Walker came West to study at vPasadena's playhouse. After a of show business including lub work, imitations and melodrama (he has always done 'character work) he entered television in 194D.

'4 Even an early morning with the actor finds is ad libbing and sense of shifting into high gear. iJOne minute he's discussing 'seriously how he MC's award -dinners for the Riverside Grand "Prix and how he won the classic 1957 next you have to shake "jynur head, blink twice to make certain Liberace isn't sitting "next to you. SUDDENLY, he introduces JDuffield Hamilton Holmes, a -dignified, huge dog in hat and 4elvet cape. You find yourself -having coffee with "Hamilton" ivho confides with a wry wink -that looking over his long nose Os like looking down the hood a radiator ornament on a '32 Packard. As you chat with "Hamilton," Walker uses a technique of pup-Ipetry for which he is known-using his own right arm and hand as if it belonged to the uppet.

The net result: puppets Cwhich play the piano, gesture Uke humans. He creates his own characters jand reasons "An artist must create and can create again. lAfter I've done something once "someone else is welcome to it, MOVED ia our Rentals and Sole tU N.
